Cliff At His Best
Great pop and gospel tracks. The Water Is Wide is my favourite rendition of this gospel classic. Superb voice as usual. Cliff was always best when he tried out the full range of his voice. This CD gives him the chance. At home with rock,pop,gospel,rock n roll. Best pop vocalist ever? Probably. The inclusion of the B side to Only Way Out is ace. Features Kenny Everett.
One of the last great Cliff Richard albums
Proving that an album with a religious theme doesn't have to preach or sound weird. Ignore the fact that this is supposed to be a gospel album and you have a fine collection of superbly crafted songs ranging from the incredibly catchy single The Only Way Out to the emotional Discovering. The other major single included here is Little Town which is probably the best ever rendition of a christmas carol that i've ever heard. It's arrangement is so powerful that it still moves me to this day. The rest of the album is immensely pleasurable to listen to and is amazingly easy on the ear.
Superbly remastered by original engineer, keith Bessey, the sound quality is now quite breathtaking and this new version far outshines the original CD version. The bonus tracks are very much worth shelling out for as well and you get some interesting liner notes too!
Rockspell
Cliff joins forces with his Christian and commercial tastes to present this excellent example of Rockspell. The music sets a high standard both commercially and spiritually, with the hits: The Only Way Out and Little Town. It marks atime of great B sides too and the addition here of Under the Influence, Love and a Helping Hand as well as You Me and Jesus, make this a perfect souvenir of that time. The only mistake was EMI forgetting to add the lyrics to these new songs.
