Average customer review:Product Description
Ghillie Basan and her husband decided to leave their home in Edinburgh and set up in a remote hillside cottage at the foot of the Cairngorms. Aiming to restore the cottage and build photographic studios out of the barns, the pair are constantly thwarted by the weather - bold, dramatic and sometimes treacherous. But the beauty of the landscape almost compensates for the bleakness of such an existence, and the story is peppered with tales of whisky breathed farmers, boiler engineers with a penchant for dressing in cowboy suits, the birth and death of lambs, the night skies and the northern lights, mothers-in-law arriving in high heels, pink mini dresses and getting stuck in snow drifts and finally, two babies.

Customer Reviews
An amazing, revealing and funny story !!
Bought this book on a friend's recommendation and I am glad I did! The book is a magical, often hilarious account of a couple who give up the comfort of city life to chase thier dreams by moving to the middle of nowhere in the Scottish highlands. It is great read and an insight into life in rural Scotland.
Buy it - you'll really enjoy it!
A great story that tells itself ! Very funny.
A story that really does tell itself! I really enjoyed this book because it made me laugh out loud and made me think about the prospect of changing direction and taking a risk. I would never have imagined from the comfort of the city that people actually live like that by choice. The author has tremendous guts and I wish her well! A five star read! Can't wait for the sequel!
What a life [but not for me] !!!!!!!
I can't remember how I found this book on-line, but I am very glad I did. This book is very funny, yet informative and a great story. How anyone would WISH to life such a rural life - I like rural/countryside - but this !!!! These people have guts and such dreams, dreams they made come true, while most of us are way to sissy to take the big step.
The book tells the life story of initially a couple, then a family in deepest Scotland, living in a home most of use would just drive past.......
do buy it, you will enjoy it greatly
