The definitive guide to competition winning
I first read this book in 1987 and have constantly referred to it. It is without doubt the best publication on competetitve martial arts, covering every aspect. I find Dan Anderson a humble and capable figure that encourages the reader to aspire to greater heights. He achieves this by using many anecdotes and well directed techniques. Well done on a great book.
An essential reference for fighters
I have referred to this book time & time again, as both a competive fighter & as an instructor. It is worth its weight in gold for those martial artists who have an interest in the sporting element of the striking martial arts.
Although it is primarily aimed at 'points' style fighting, may of the strategies & techniques still do apply for 'continuous' sparring.
I have a huge library of martial arts books that I have collected over the years & this is one I dig out regularly for ideas to teach to my students. Highly recommended.
the best book on sparring I have ever read
I have been involved in the martial arts for over nine years and I have never come across a better manual for sparring than this!!! Mr. Anderson goes beyond the typical martial arts primer found in most martial arts books to explaine strategy, angles of attack, different attacking modes... this is an excellent book for the experienced martial artist as it doesn't spend much time on the basics. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in improving their sparring. this book is geared to compitition sparring but with a small ammount of imagination the reader can apply it to street fighting!!! a wonderful book!!! ps. if anyone knows of others like it please let me know!!!
