Essential and interesting price guide for all music collectors
Now clocking in at a hefty 1400 pages of small type, with a claimed over 100,000 entries (though I haven't counted them) this is the original, best and most comprehensive of the rare record price guides. It's worth the full 28GBP but at a reduced price as here it's even better value.
Fritter away hour after hour simply checking on the value of your old and not so old stuff and feel the mixed emotion of things like finding out that though you don't have the 1st Shy Limbs single "Reputation", your favourite, from 1968 valued at 80GBP, you bought the follow-up "Lady in Black" for 3/6d (17.5p) from the cheap rack just after it was released and it's now worth 120GBP. Most excellent dude but of course you'd never sell it!
I only have two gripes. The phrase "now with full colour illustrations" amounts to 60 small colour shots of records, sleeves etc over 10 pages. A volume this size could do with far more colour illustrations, meanwhile 21 pages of colour are wasted on advertising. Secondly I've never managed to get a hardback edition, despite applying on receipt of the magazine advertising it. Why not print a bigger or unlimited run? The demand is obviously there.
Generous
I bought this book for my husband and he appreciated the gift.
It 's really a precious guide for finding and measuring the rare vinyl.
RC Guide 2010 - A synopsis...
Generally an excellent price guide, has improved a lot in the last few editions with the addition of some lovely colour images or rare items, especially depicting some wonderful sleeves.
However, it is a Price Guide, and Guide is the operative word...
Certain genres are well under priced in my opinion (certain reggae, ska items, psych singles, library items and some NWOBHM).
It seems also that certain items are hugely overpriced, such as Cliff Richard and other early Rock and Roll items, and some British Jazz seems to have reached its peak..
There are also many collectable items that fetch good prices at fairs and on internet auction sites not even listed here... Punk singles for example.
RJB.
