Taking a narrative approach, "The Lion Atlas of Bible History" is a rich resource for all those interested in the Bible's history, geography and archaeology. It traces the unfolding of the major events in the Old and New Testaments, from Abraham's wanderings in Canaan and Egypt through to Paul's missions and founding of new churches. Special features on subjects such as the peoples and languages of the Bible run throughout the book, helping to deepen the reader's understanding of geography, landscape, climate, culture and religion. The text is complemented by 96 maps to help the reader understand the Bible narrative and provide background information. In addition there are 143 colour photographs, 7 panoramic illustrations and 16 site plans, plus a range of battle plans and small artworks.

Customer Reviews
At last a reference book that answers questions I ask!
Paul Lawrence needs to be congratulated for this excellent volume. His scholarship is accessible to the lay reader and leads you into a greater understanding of the issues that surrounded the writing of the Bible.
For years I have gone to reference books with specific questions only to be disappointed that the writers only seem to deal with questions of a "scholarly" nature that don't really touch into the real world.
This book is completely different. The graphics are excellent, the maps very helpful and the photographs (an abundance of the them) give the reader a far greater insight into the terrain and culture of the Bible lands than words alone could ever do. Having said that the text is full of good scolarship and an abundance of cultural insight.
To have a wide focus on the lands outside of Israel is really helpful. One friend exclaimed that she never realised so much happened in so many other countries!
This book is a must for anyone who wants to understand the context of the Bible.
