Editorial Reviews
CD Description
This is the debut album from original bootlegger and mash-up artist Richard X. The album is a mix of cheeky samples spliced, chopped, and re-assembled into pop based dance workouts whilst featuring vocals from a whole host of guests including Kelis, Jarvis Cocker, and Javine. The singles 'Freak Like Me', 'Being Nobody', and 'Finest Dreams' are all included.
Customer Reviews
Go Richard Go
Oooh Ive been waiting so long to get my mitts on this. I heard it held moments of pure pop magic.
It also has 'interludes' sometimes they work, and here they do. Mark One is the best interlude.
So onto the tracks:
Being Nobody
I love this song so much, I can never tire of it. If the rest of the album is as good as this I'll be one joyous lad!
Rock Jacket
Its not exactly Liberty X but thats not a bad thing. This is a rather pleasant 80's style mash up of electronica.
You Used To
Step down Liberty, Javine has stolen your xxxlad pop crown.
This is ace - the best track on the album and now my favourite song in the world!
Just Friends
This is cool. Some tart from a telephone personal ad has been mixed up and re-jigged in this moody and charming effort.
Lonely
I dont like this one at all - its horrid. I hope to god this isnt it - has the album climaxed already?
Walk On By
Hurrah - all is well, for Richard gets some posh bird to cover this Dionne Warwick classic. This will be number one. Hurrah another smash hit.
Lemon/Lime
Its that same posh bird who walked on by. This is ok, but its background music.
Finest Dreams
I love Kelis and have been championing this track for months now.
You Better Let Me Love You X4
Remember the 80's and queer pop? Imagine Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Erasure and the Pet Shop Boys all mixed into one delicious fruity cake. You still wouldnt come close to this tracks godliness.
Freak Like Me
Here Richard offers us an alternative mix and its alright, the songs been around for ages, bit bored of it now.
Into You
I dont rate Jarvis Cocker and wasnt looking forward to this, the last track of a brilliant album.
But Jarvis gives the performance of his life and comes up trumps. This song is fab and should be Xmas no.1.
I love this album so much and promise to listen to it at least once a day.
Yay!
The best album out this year by far!
This is an absolutly ace album. In 2002 Richard X was almost unheard of and yet it is greatly due to him that the Sugababes made such a huge comeback with their number one hit single Freak Like Me.Soon after he worked his magic with Liberty X putting his name firmly on the map. This album is by far one of the best this year and is guarnteed to be a number one in the album chart. However I do think that it is a little short on variety as the songs can become a little boring after a while and with the over play of both Freak like me and Just a little on the radio thses songs get very anoying! Overall a great album though and its a must have in every collection.
X FACTOR OR EX FACTOR?
richard x is the kind of guy that lurks behing great songs and has been around for ages patiently awaiting his chance to pluck the chart cherry. His first commercial release has a varied mix of songs on, the three standout ones being "freak like me" with the sugababes, "finest dreams" with kelis and "being nobody" with liberty x which are in themselves storming songs. the rest of the album is a mix of the hilarious "walk on by" has the works spoken by a very posh lady and the sublime "you better let me love you x4 tonight" featuring tiga which if its not being played in clubs up and down the country by now should be and would do well released as a single. The rest of the album is given over to elecrofunk updates of classic songs and while not to everyones taste are a clever twist on the usually bland cover versions artists spew out ad nauseum. In a nutshell if you liked the three singles you will probably enjoy the album muchly but if only one or two floated your boat it probably best to give this a miss.
