Great book - buy it
It's a pleasant surprise to encounter a book on Aikido that doesn't constantly refer to the so-called spiritual side of a martial art. The book is very clearly written by a man who seems to have a lot of time for all the major Aikido styles and no particular bias.
It's a very positive book that makes you want to practice every day.
Looks at the various styles and schools of aikido
This is a good reference book for the beginner who wants to understand the different styles of aikido being promoted around the world. It bounces around a bit and is not an instructional book with respect to techniques. The illustrations are black and white hand-drawn ones which help to explain how the philosophy and physical techniques come together. The book adds little to the extensive information in print on aikido already published, and the writing is dry and somewhat centered on Wildish's experiences and understanding of aikido. The book rates 3/5 for me though because it is a book that can be easily read due to its size and vocabulary, and because it does not overemphasize the oriental philosophies behind aikido.
