Finished With it... lag perk unlocked!1
First of i want to say that i really thought the single player part of the game was very impressive. The story line and gameplay i give it 5 stars gladly. I enjoyed it from start to finish.

However the single player is only a small part of what i wanted as i have been playing online games for years now, Sadly as much i really wanted to like this game the new IWNET system where the game is hosted on players home PC's it a terrible failure. At the moment i have reached level 42 so have have some experience of it.

The problem is lag about 50% of games i played the connection either fails totally or you get host migrated to another players PC,When waiting in the lobby for a game to start it drops the connection when it cannot connect to the host and you start over, Insead of using a server browser and popping onto a dedicated one where all your mates hang out. This lag and constant interuptions has ruined the gameplay for me. I am on an 8 meg line and when i play other games on properly run dedicated server this is not a issue as it happens very rarely.

The final tipping point came today is when the Aimbotters turned up, And with killcam there is no dispute when you see it snap to the players head and delivers a perfect shot every time, And since this is IWNET using valve anti cheat there are no Server admins to kick/ban them.

Why The developers thought IWNET and Valve anti cheat would fair any better than previous games is a mystery, Anybody who has played counter strike that uses VAC will know that Server admins where always kicking ainbotters/speedhackers etc because VAC couldent, So the reason for this i must assume is is cost related but in the history of online gaming there are always 2 constants. The first is that the game will always be pirated and the second is that the hackers will always find a way around the security. And while the game is hosted on your own PC i am concerned that it may allow attemts to get into your PC for malicious reasons.

For the record i was one of the people who voiced concerns regarding dedicated servers but i gave it a try and the gaming community was correct, On paper i am sure IWNET is a great idea but in reality you cant beat a dedicated server where you can make new friends and a decent admin.

Great single player campaign but annoying multiplayer issues. Especially disappointing to fans of the first modern warfare2
First off let me say I have not bought this game but have finished the single player campaign and played a couple of online matches on a friends pc (managed both while he was at work giving an indication of how long the game kept me busy). The singleplayer campaign was lots of fun feeling like a michael bay version of the first modern warfare. The combat was intense and pleasantly challenging without ever being frustrating. The graphical enhancements were noticeable and pleasant but didn't feel revolutionary. Given that the first modern warfare was such a beautiful game this is fine and the game ran very smoothly on the machine which is 2 or 3 years old by now.

I was disappointed by the competitive multiplayer aspect of the game which did not allow you to chose servers but relied on some kind of match making system. I had a couple of good games but I missed the greater freedom of choice that server lists provide. It made the game feel like a rushed console port which is not in keeping with the overall excellent production values. Some servers also had lag issues which is something I never consistently experienced on the first modern warfare where I never joined a server with a ping of over 75. Although I enjoyed some of the multiplayer I was disappointed overall especially when compared to the amazing experience that was modern warfare 1.

I have not tried the spec ops mode which sounds like a lot of fun so I can only review 2/3 of the game. Based on this I can not give this game a very positive review. The singleplayer campaign is very bombastic and enjoyable but only lasts for 4 to 5 hours (second hardest difficulty setting). The main reason for buying any CoD game has always been the multiplayer for me. It feels like the developers neglected the aspect that made their games stand out above the rest and provided long term motivation to play their games. I will not purchase the game as I feel I have experienced most of what it has to offer already and I can not be bothered to deal with the frustrating multiplayer.

Summary: Fantastic single player experience typical of the CoD series but overall disappointing due to the lack of effort put into the (for me) most exciting part of the game, the competitive multiplayer.

Cod disappointment leaves a bad taste in the mouth.1
Is this the beginning of the end for PC gaming? At max detail & resolution this doesn't make my pc break into a mild sweat. What I wanted was COD 4 meets Crysis Warhead in terms of graphics quality. What I got was a console game. No ability to lean, multiplayer sacrificed on the altar of the bland console format. In summary COD 4 was a ground breaking piece of pseudo combat simulation. Modern Warfare 2 is a playstation game. Somebody else needs to pick up the baton for this genre now, Infinity Ward has lost it somewhere...
