Product Description

This manual takes both novice and experienced boatowner through minor to major repairs of electrical systems, engines, electronics, steering systems, generators, pumps, cookers, spars and rigging. When it was first published in 1990, the Boatowner's Mechanical & Electrical Manual broke new ground. It was hailed as the first truly DIY manual for boatowners and has sold in its thousands ever since. There have been significant changes in boat systems since then, particularly electrical systems, and this third edition has been fully updated to reflect these developments and expand its predecessor's worldwide popularity. 'Probably the best technical reference and troubleshooting book in the world' Yachting Monthly 'It deserves to come standard with every boat' Yachting World

Customer Reviews

If you have one maintenance book on board, make it this one.5
There are lots of books that deal with aspects of boat maintenance, but Calder has just the right level of detail on almost all the areas of maintenance that you might need. He points out potential problem areas, and whilst he seems a bit over-cautious at times (I sometimes wonder if he ever actually gets to SAIL his boat), it's much better that he errs on the side of caution. We've used this book for years, and it's helped us through a complete electrical rewiring, a top-end engine overhaul and a strip and service of the marine toilet! A definite must if you can't afford yard maintenance for day to day jobs.

No DIY boat owner should be without this book5
I am a professional boat builder, and boat owner, with a wealth of information available to me. Nigel Calders book is refered to on a regular basis. Some knowledge is required to obtain the best from the book. This book, together with an electrical test meter should be part of any boats equipment.

A book by an engineer for engineers4
This book is a must for any boatwoner that is technically competent and who carries out his own repairs and installations. The best I have seen yet.
The only fault is that most of the products and trade names that he refers to tend not to be available outside USA.
