Customer Reviews

Of definite value3
The DVD is very comprehensive. It features Chen & Yang full forms, optional bite-size exercises for various parts of the body and then segments devoted to combat applications and techniques. Two points worth qualifying however, Master Wong has a very frank and colloquail style. This fits well with his no-nonsense, street-fighter approach to Tai Chi application but can bring you up with a start if you're expecting some sage-like kernals to sprout forth like some Zen master. Although he performs the 'forms' superbly well, the emphasis of the DVD is 'pragmatic' combat, defence and attack techniques and their 'real' application. His address is one of a no-nonsense instructor at a local gym-without any airs and graces. The quality on my copy was a tad grainy which lost it several stars but it does have some worth-the combat applications of Tai Chi are rarely covered elsewhere.

An excellent set...5
I read some of the other reviews on this page and decided to purchase the DVD set. Although the asking price was £24.99, I brought from the used selection, and managed to find a brand new sealed set for £10, saving me £15.

As the other people have said, the DVD set is very good, and I'm looking forwards to studying it further. I would recommend this DVD to anybody who perhaps like me, has a basic level of experience with Tai Chi but wishes to apply it to fighting.

This DVD isn't for relaxation Tai Chi, it is for fighting, although the author does teach contemporary Tai Chi first.

For this price of £10 (or less), I would say that anyone with an interest in Tai Chi and martial arts would be a fool not to buy it, especially given the other very positive reviews given by other people.

On the tin5
Ever wonder why you put your hands in a certain place in the Yang and Chen form? Just how important is shifting ones weight in practical application? Master Wong takes the Taiji player through some of the devistating moves found in this martial art to great effect. (Yes, the assistants in the demonstrations are wearing body armor.)

I was pleasantly supprised that the two DVDs in this box are separated into Yang and Chen. Each style has its own character but can, with practice, be used together. Master Wong is a very accomplished Martial artist, and has presented some fantastic moves in this set. The chapters of the DVD are easy to navagate. Pruduction values are quite high.

My only criticisms:
Master Wong spends a lot of time ranting rather than teaching application. This gets very tiresome when trying to watch the moves multiple times. Also, his broken English occasionally muddles up his explaination.

That being said, my understanding of Taiji has improved dramaticly. I now look at all the postures with a much clearer view of why they developed. Thank you Master Wong.
