Plays everything - Optical Input - 1080i & 1080p - Crystal Clear Sound!
I chose this model because it seemed to be the only one with an Optical Input and capable of playing all types of media.
It's taken a few days getting to grips with the menu system. First of all, trying to get the picture you want from a film was a little tricky because you have so many choices. This could either be a good thing or bad thing. After much testing, I think having so much choice is a good thing. For example, you can upscale your DVD's to 1080i or 1080p depending on your TV. You can tell the DVD player what TV your using, ie, LCD, Plasma, etc. And then you can even change the Brightness, Contrast, Colour, Sharpness, etc. All the stuff you usually do on your TV. After many hours and many DVD's I finally managed to get the picture I wanted. And what a great picture this player can produce. Very satisfied!
The sound is easier than the picture because there isn't as much choice. You can still alter the volume of each speaker, you can add more bass and there are functions to change the EQ for heavier sounds or clearer sounds, etc. But all-in-all, you don't need much choice because the sound you get from this player is excellent! Very sharp, crystal clear, great bass and there's even a function for playing films at night when everyone else is in bed.
Overall....Very happy with this player. It's black so it looks great with my LCD TV. Sound = Excellent. Picture = If you play around with the menu's you can get a great picture. Oh, and the Optical Input....My XBOX 360 sounds amazing!!!
Very Happy!!
Lovely system that works great which I use solely as a sound system
I bought this model twice for others and own one myself. It seemlessly integrates with most TV's using viera link and works great with panasonic plasmas.
I rate this 5 stars because the sound performance is outstanding. one issue is the subwoofer it is overpowered and the unit cannot handle lots of bass (i.e. beyond it's limit it just gets self struck) but then the bass never distorts. Although the subwoofer does lack the power of more heavier subsonic drivers. This unit is amazing if the right music is played. The fix is to purchase the new SC-PT560. which features a better balanced, box shape subwoofer with 25cm Kelton driver.
I use it as a speakers solely using the describe D-IN function which is the optical in. note the optical in only supports Dolby Digital and PCM audio. The unit becomes really active when a dolby signal is fed. I use the Dolby Digital Live on my pc sound card for this and the 5.1 is very impressive as full 1000Watts are utilised in Dolby Mode. PCM is very good I use SRS sandbox to boost treble and Subs. One note, care has to be taken not to loosen the optical in connection.
I like the satellites are very responsive and go as low as 80Hz. I swapped the tall boys from front as rear speakers because i live in a student dorm room so setup is difficult but they work very well.
The USB works well for MP3 Player and hard drives. but they have to be in folders ordered by number e.g. 001, 002 etc and need to be FAT32. some hard drives my need extra power. You really need a display to use this function. so a HD TV or HDMI monitor goes perfect.
Thanks for reading this review hope this helps
sounds great, perfect picture, easy to use
Very loud when required, great sound, great picture. good search functionality. Play my mp3 player through it. really enhances watching dvds or listening to music.
