Fantastic product!
Gives you a surprisingly stable platform to shoot pictures from. This monopod is well made, with sturdy tubing and well made quick release latches for each section. The whole thing has a very professional feel. I use it with a digital SLR equipped with a mid sized telephoto lens, but it would do just as well with a longer lens or even a video camera. Monopods can be really useful in situations where a tripod is impractical but where you could do with some extra support. I use it for sporting events and it really helps to maintain stability when panning. I'm about 5' 10" tall and I don't use it fully extended, but there's not a lot of height left. I'm guessing, but I would imagine that anybody above 6' 2" would feel more comfortable using it with a head to extend the height.
Well built and stable but a bit bulky
I have used several monopods with the MN681B being the most expensive. It is a very well made and the most stable monopod I have used, however I find its bulk puts me off taking it with me unless I am pretty certain that I will need it. Therefore unless you are experienced at shooting with a monopod and will be using large lenses (say 500mm and over) I would personally buy a finer and lighter monopod for everyday use. Cautious recommendation.
Pros
Very well made and will last a life-time
Very good fully extended height
Very stable with little flex
Cons
Fairly bulky to carry around.
Expensive
Has a rounded rubber foot (I personally prefer a spiked foot)
Manfrotto monopod does what it says on the tin!
I was a little apprehensive before buying this item about whether the significant cost differential between this model and other 'cheaper' makes of monopods was actually justified. I can tell you that it is 100% justified. Yes the monopod is heavier than anticipated, but this only lends itself to giving the camera a much lower centre of gravity and consequently a much stable platform. Well worth it.
