Potential problem1
I purchased this cable and followed the instructions to the letter. I plugged the small end into the helicopter but did not insert the USB cable into the computer. Within a minute I could smell plastic burning, a hot electrical smell. When I touched the box on the USB cable (the one with the LED light on it) I burned my fingers.

The USB cable had taken what remained of the power in the helicopter and fed it back down the cable. Had it been plugged into the computer I could now be looking at a very expensive replacement!

The instructions that come with the cable advise the user to remove the USB cable from the computer when the green LED light goes off - when the helicopter is fully charged. There is no advise as to whether the helicopter battery should be completely flat before recharging it.

The instructions for the helicopter do not suggest that the helicopter battery needs to be completely flat before recharging. It simply says that it should be recharged after use.

If a child touched this cable the damage could have been severe. The prospect of my home burning down is also not beyond the realms of possibility.

This small and very useful little USB charger seemed the answer to my problems when in fact it has made me unsure as to exactly how stringent the safety tests were on it.

I wonder if I am the only person wishing I could put a rating less than one star for this item!

Great Item & saves on batteries!5
I was given the Salvation 3 helicopter for a present & found it needed 6xAA batteries for the controller & to charge up the helicopter you needed to use the controller power cable which takes around 1 hour & uses quite alot of the battery power, which means lots of batteries & expense. So when I saw this product I was thrilled, as it saves so much money. It still takes around 1 hour to charge & works just fine, I kept feeling the cable to see if it was over heating but it was fine & worked just as it should. I would have liked it to charge a little quicker if possible, as I read that it should only take around 30mins but as it saves money I think its a great item.
