Lovely
It's nice to see Lego once again making models of every day city / country objects instead of the usual slew of Police, Fire, Rescue and bloody StarWars sets.
A lovely little set that harks back to Lego's classic heyday of the early 90's. It comes in a simple but clean and effective colour scheme and a charming little Lego man who sits in the cab looking very pleased with his lot in life. Just as Lego people should be!
It also has a cracking little function on the back that replicates a real tractor's 3 point hitch so in effect you could take off the little tipper and build your own things such as ploughs, crop sprayers or mowers etc...
Like the other reviewer I bought this for a quiet 5 mins in work and I fear I'm hooked now.
By the way. The only reason this isn't a 5 star set is due to the fact that it's only a small one that doesn't take too long to build. That's it.
Now. What set should I buy next?
Lego City Tractor
The tractor is stylish, well-designed and fun to operate. The instructions are easy to follow. My 9 nine year old son was thrilled with it. He loves the City Farm collection and this is an excellent addition.
Down on the Farm
Today, I bought Lego City set 7634, which is a smashing red tractor with tippy-up thingy on the back and a pleasant farmhand in green overalls carrying a spade! Its from their new farming range (i know! be still my beating heart - but think, we may soon get...Lego Cows!!!! how awesome), and do you know what? Its smashing.
I'd long ago stopped buying Lego, as during the 1990s there was a marked shift towards simplistic building. A lot of the sets just built the model on the box and that was that. Borriing!
So yes, I thought, well its quiet at work I'll buy a small set to fiddle with. And by jove, its a corking little set. I was a bit wary, as it says "designed for easy building and instant play", but there are a suprising amount of pieces involved. Nice big rubber wheels in a Technic stylee, upright exhaust pipe, head and tail lights, access ladders and some nice decals to finish it off.
I'm not sure about the eyebrows or the spots of light on the pupils of the minifigure. I guess it adds character, but it seems unnecessary.
The only (minor) gripe is that in common with all other Lego vehicles, you have to pull off the whole windshield arrangement to get the figure to sit in the thing. I don't mind this, but I do kinda miss the old hinged roof where you could open it up and slip the figure inside.
To sum up - Marvellous! And look out for those Lego cows! Moooo!
