Great little external dvd-rom
I bought this as I didnt realise notebooks dont come with dvd-rom or cd-rom (Doh!). I dont think I couldve picked a better product. The product itself is very stylish and operates very smoothly, although does product a little vibration (not noticable on hard surface but on soft surfaces you can feel it, like on the sofa). I would have given this a 5* but for the cable, its way too short. It has a double split on the usb end for extra power (you plug into two usb ports, the trouble with this is the ports need to be next to eachother on the notebook and mine isnt). Mine worked fine with using 1 usb port and that was important as I didnt want a dvd-rom drive I had to plug in with its own power supply. Overall I can recommend this product if like me you are after a great little stylish external dvd-rom drive for your notebook.
L G GP08nu20 external CD/DVD writer
My DVD writer in my laptop, has stareted to produce some problems, so I decided to purchase the LG gp08nu20 slimline external DVD writer.
I think it's fantastic. Write speed is good; it very quiet; very well built; that sound of quality as one closes the draw. As yet, I have not used the Cd option, but I don't expect any problem there.
The USB lead is shorter than my external hard drive, but I personally have no problem with the shorter lead.
At first, I did not install the LG disc, but the computer reconized the the LG with no problems.
when the disc was installed, I felt that I had struck gold, beacause the programe is very simular to the Acer programe, which I have missed.
Do I recomend this item? A big yes.

Works with Acer Aspire One linux netbook
I have the Acer Aspire One netbook with 8GB memory, 8.9 inch screen and the linux Linpus operating system; I wanted an external drive so that I could load CDs and watch the occasional DVD.
This drive fits my needs, it is small, light, quiet and looks very smart; it has a gloss white finish which matches my netbook. It is powered from the USB and comes with a 600mm long cable terminated in 2 USB connectors, you will need to connect both if your netbook can't supply sufficient power from one port, I found I only needed to connect one.
Unlike Windows when you plug an empty drive into the Aspire One the light on the drive flashes but there is no indication on the netbook. You can press the button on the drive and put in a disc, a CD then appears in My Files and a DVD was played automatically in Media Master without any problems. Once you have a disc in the drive the button on the drive no longer functions and you need to click on the icon to the right of the drive name in my files or select eject from within Media Master.
I don't need to burn discs with my netbook but the drive worked well on a Windows PC. The software supplied was useful, mainly programs from Cyberlink and burning tools from Nero.
