There is a wide range of power options available for use with the Active 10, allowing you to choose the one which suits your needs best. AA batteries give you the flexibility to carry spares and easily swap them half way round a walk, whereas the Lithium Polymer rechargeable option could end up being more effective when the unit is used on a regular basis. Whichever option you choose, it is always advisable to remember the power saving tips to get the most from your battery (see the User Guide). This Power Bundle comes complete with 1 x LiPol 2,700mAh battery, specifically designed for the Active 10, which fits inside the standard AA back. Useful for the battery
You get a fairly standard set of adapter bits for plugging into the wall, a cigarette lighter attachment and the all important battery. I couldn't help feeling for the cost of the satmap some or all of this could have been included with the satmap itself.

The li-poly battery lasts well enough, going for around six hours off a full charge with moderate screen use. I've got the 1.2 firmware installed on my satmap so, as of Aug 2008 I should be getting the best possible battery life. The battery also weighs less than the three AA batteries it's replacing.

Points to note:
1. You have to remove the battery caddy in the satmap to install the li-poly battery, and the instructions say 'Unclip the battery caddy by gently pulling on the top left corner'. Well I tried, gently, I really did, but it was clipped fast, and I only managed to unclip it by using the point of a knife to gently lever out the left hand corner.
2. The satmap device just shows that the battery is charging, but not how far it's got to go, and doesn't show when it's fully charged, so you have to pull the USB cable out to see what the battery level indicator says. Satmap say they'll fix this with a software update.
3. The interchangeable charger heads click in to place *very* firmly and I found them impossible to remove without using a pencil or something similar to dislodge them.

The charger works via the USB connector, and the battery will also charge when the unit is connected to a computer via USB. So, if you think you'll never need the mains charger it would be cheaper to buy the battery on its own.

Satmap active 10 accessory
If you have an active 10 then this is essential. It allows you to charge up your GPS from a power point or a usb port and means you always go out with a fully charged unit. The Active 10 is the best and this makes it even better.

Comprehensive Power system
Excellent selection of power and charging options, including international AC adaptors and car cigarette lighter attachments as well as the option to charge from a USB port. Would definitely recommend to any SATMAP owner.
