The racing rules of sailing explained. Get ahead of the competition with this straight talking, practical guide to the racing rules 2008–2012
Rules in Practice is primarily for competitive sailors who race in keelboats and dinghies. The Racing Rules of Sailing apply to all forms of sailboat racing. The author – a member of the International Sailing Federation – looks at 100 key situations that occur on the racecourse – both championship and club racing. Unlike the competition, Bryan looks at each situation from your viewpoint, the helmsman. It summarizes what each may, must, or cannot do.
Armed with this information you will have the confidence to exploit your rights to the full, on the water and in the protest room.
It features a special analysis of the latest rule changes and has been extended to contain the very latest Rules and Appendices in full.

From the Back Cover
The Rules in Practice is essential for any competitive sailor.
Bryan Willis looks at key situations that repeatedly occur on the championship and club racecourse. Unlike other books on racing rules, Bryan looks at each situation from your viewpoint and places you in each of the boats involved, so you know your rights and obligations; what you may, must, or mustn’t do, and shows the critical questions which will determine the ‘facts found’, should the incident end up in a protest room.
Armed with this knowledge you will not only avoid breaking rules and taking penalties, but you can exploit your rights to the full to gain places on the racecourse or present your case if there is a protest.
The Rules in Practice features a special analysis of the rule changes and contains the current ISAF Rules and Appendices in full.

Does what it says on the tin
A very good book for the beginner. As a resutl of this book we have won few races
A very useful book.
This book has been extremely useful to me, I have used it to learn the rules I need to know when being race officer at my local club. It gives easy to understand diagrams with good explanations to back it up. At the end of the book it gives detailed references on each flag and when to use them, which is very useful as I often find this very hard to remember. The product came within the delivery time and in perfect condition with good packaging protecting it. Overall I give this 5 star as it is a very useful book with good diagrams to explain all rules and all relevant information
