Customer Reviews
Functional, stylish and very hygenic
I got the model advertised, not the dual control model the other reviewer has. I must say its great, large 50litre capacity with Brabantia's own bags or just use the common or garden black bin bags. Its a smart silver/chrome finish so fits in decor wise with most kitchens. The big plus for me is the fact you only ever have to touch the bin when removing the bag. I've had a variety of cheaper pedal operated and push top bins but none were as 'clean' as this. Buy this and you will be happy even if it seems a bit excessive price wise for a bin! It is guaranteed for 5years too so on the whole represents good value. I've probably spent more over five years on cheaper bins and regretted there flimsy design!
Very good when working - poor customer service when it fails.
I've had this bin 3 months now.
The electronic lid is very handy and functions well when working. The open and close reponse time is good.
It's the cleanist bin I've ever owned you only need to touch the bin to replace the bag.
I cook at home a lot and found myself replacing the batteries on a weekly basis.
After two months the lid mechnism began to fail - It frequently started to make a whining sound and failed to open, or close for that matter when helped open.
I used the Brabantia website service pages to request a warenty replacment (they send you a paid post bag and you return the faulty lid first) - Heard nothing. I called customer service a week latter (they know nothing of my web based request), They send my a 2nd Class unsigned for postal sticker a few days latter (no bag no customer number or returns number!) I buy a large Jiffy bag and posted it back to them including a letter detailing the problem again and including my address.
That was nearly three weeks ago - I've not recived a replacment lid or any contact from Branbantia!
I'll now have to take time out my work day again to contact their customer service - I dubt I'll have a replacment lid before Christmas! The bin is lidless and smelly!
So in closing great when it works - Terrible customer service from Branbantia when it does not!
Step away from the bin...
We happily owned the standard version of this bin for several years before purchasing this sensor one and the build design is sturdy and excellent as ever. It's a good purchase and I'd buy this one again over the standard design because it stays so much cleaner as you don't touch it to open. It's a very clean and hygenic bin.
The lid 'beeps' fairly loudly every time you place your hand over it to open which was a bit annoying for the first few weeks. It also sometimes beeps and opens just because you walk past it. We have got used to our bin with a 'feed me now' beeping personality and the noise and flapping lid is just part of the kitchen.
The bin does confuse visitors though as there is a time delay in the lid 'silently' closing. If you hover too near the lid also refuses to shut as it thinks you are in the way. A good safety feature but it means vistors repeatedly bash the lid down forcefully while it resolutely refuses to close or springs right back up. Fortunately the bin lid survives being bashed down against it's will. Or has done to date. Visitors think you need to wave your hand over the sensor for it to shut but you don't, it shuts after a time delay. If there is something sticking out of the bin after a few attempts at shutting it will stay open so you have to adjust the internal rubbish and close it manually. It means we can no longer fill the bin to our old almost overflowing levels but just to full. It is a good incentive to empty the bin more often else the lid stays open and you get aroma of rubbish in your kitchen.
We got this bin at the beginning of April, two months ago and as a household of 5 have only had to change the batteries in the lid once which seems reasonable.
With a five year guarantee there is some peace of mind should the lid fail but luckily I've not had to test out how easily the lid can be fixed/replaced yet.
For the first few days the children made about 500 trips to the bin to see it beep and open and I had a tidy house until the novelty wore off. It is perhaps worth an extra half star for the temporary effect it has on small children and visitors who admire your bin ... before bashing the lid profusely and asking "why won't it shut". Step away from the bin...
