We'll never be stung by excess baggage charges again!
My son was recently charged £30 for a couple of kilos excess bagggage by Ryanair (he had to pack loads of stuff for a baby, who doesn't have her own allowance, and his bathroom scales weren't quite as accurate as he'd thought!). My wife and I were spot on the limit, although we had no way of checking the weight of our baggage on the homeward journey. To avoid any possibility of getting ripped off in the future, I invested in these Balanzza Ergo scales, which had excellent reviews on various websites. They are easy to use in kilos or pounds and seem pretty accurate too. They are light enough to take with you to check that your bags are still under the allowance on the way home. And, they cost about the same as Ryanair's money-grabbing one kilo excess baggage charge! Now I'll have to buy another one for my son...

Very handy for air travel where they are getting so tigh on your luggage allowance. The unit is light and compact which means it can be taken away with you to ensure you do not get stung for excess luggage on the way back. The only downside is that this model does not come with a neat carry case.

Good but mind your back
I'm surprised that nobody mentions how awkward it is to use this product in a safe way. Yes the product is ingenious and does what it says, very well. I've had it for a couple of years now and take it with me whenever I'm travelling. BUT - the way you're meant to lift the Balanzza by its handle whilst it's attached to your case is very, very awkward to say the least; you're basically lifting a heavy item (say on average 15kg) in a really unsafe way. It's very hard not to hurt your back while you do it. I've got enough physical strength to lift a 20kg case with no problems, but lifting it by means of this gadget is a real effort; suddenly the weight is distributed in a really small area and it's very hard to lift it high enough; perhaps taller people will find it easier, I'm about 1.64m and really struggle.
So I'd recommend the product but advise people to really be careful of their backs when they use it.
