Very impressed! Great value for money
For as long as I can remember, at least twenty years, I have been using a Philips Lady 1000 hairdryer, so small and light it's almost travel size.
I was very apprehensive about using anything else as I expected it to be noisy and too harsh.
However I am delghted to say I can absolutely endorse this product and I'm amazed at how inexpensive it is for what you get. It looks ultra chic and professional, is well designed and agreeably easy to hold and use. It doesn't blow or burn your head off, is simple to use, and to my surprse the result was astonishing - instant obedient hair which went where it was told and stayed there, with no trace of static. Most of the jargon is above my head but according to the blurb there is "science" to back up why the product is as effective as it is ("extra torque"... "ionic technology.")
Even the cord is sensibly long.
Its a little heavy but that is a small price to pay for such a super effective weapon.
Very reasonable hair dryer.
This blow dryer is very good. I keep my hair in braids and compared to my previous blow dryer I feel this one penetrates the braids better, to dry the hair. Having never used a blow dryer that boasts the use of Ionic technology previously, it is difficult for me to identify its existence and the effect thereof. One thing I did notice was the manner in which the air is blown through the dryer. With my previous dryer, which was not an "Ionic" dryer, the air was expelled in what I can only describe as a straight beam of air. With the Babyliss 5533U you can feel a slight pulsating push of the air. Perhaps this is an effect of the Ionic technology?
You should also note a fact about the 6 heat/speed settings. This is a little misleading. The speed settings are in fact 1 = slow, 0 = off, and 2 = fast. The heat settings are 1 = warm 2 = hot and then there is a cold shot button. Therefore, the manufacturer considers the "off" option a setting.
One other minor gripe I have is that the cord is a little shorter than the one on my previous dryer and it is fair to say that I grew used to that length given the distance from the power socket and the area I sit in to dry my hair. I hope this helps.
Babyliss - not quite bliss, on/off Switch
I have used this to dry my own hair and can say that although I think it is a good haridryer it does have a couple of issues.
My biggest shock was the noise it produced when switching it on, it sounds very noisy almost like a jet engine. (Have used other makes in the past and they have not been as noisy as this dryer). Be warned the noise could be a little shocking for anyone of an older age using it on their own.
The results is gives are super, really dry hair in a lot quicker time than my usual hairdryer, but a lot noisier, so yes great for early morning rushes, that is if the rest of the household doesn't mind being woken. I used mine with the diffuser at first and couldn't quite get used to it having soft almost bendable spokes on it (my previous one had hard plastic ones, so when putting this one near my head was surprised when it almost felt like it was giving way). I suppose it is what you are used to and like anything once a few goes are had of it, it gets easier.
My hair was left feeling nicely dry and styled, plus smoother this is due to it being ionic.
Now the weight of it is a little heavy, I think my husband thought this one might be slightly lighter in weight than the one we tend to use, but it isn't, I think this is down to the design of it, the weight seems to fall to the bottom (when picking it up you think it feels quite light but when using it, it is heavy even without the diffuser on it). I know it is a salon one so it really is built well, but a little on the heavy side.
The one big bug bear is the on/off switch, when drying my hair the dryer went quiet, this was due to me pressing the on/off switch by accident. This switch is on the handle and quite easily pressed when holding the dryer and bending your hand around to do various sections of your hair.
Now I seem to remember that when I used the Babyliss hair straightners that they also had a same kind of problem with the location of the on/off switch. Either that or it's the shape/size of my hands.
The length of the wire is long enough for most peoples need and the guarantee that is given with the dryer is well worth it.
Value for money ? Yes, would I ever purchase one of these if this one broke? Probably but only if they could sort out the location of the on/off switch position so that it doesn't keep going off by accident.
I have to give this product only a four star due to the on/off switch problem and the noise level, would have loved to have given it 5 stars as the styling it produces is wonderful.
