Yummy!
My mum bought this for me & I am just about to buy one for my in-Laws for Christmas. It makes gorgeous ice cream of just the right amount for 4-6 people. We love the frozen yoghurt ones, they are so healthy if you use low fat yoghurt & made with fresh strawberries it is to die for! They recommend that you use full fat milk & cream etc but I have experimented with semi skimmed & low fat & actually prefer the lower fat ice creams which can only be good!I like the fact that you only have to freeze the disc, not the whole bowl like some other makers & it only takes 30 - 45 mins to make. I don't normally 'do' Ice cream (unless I am in Italy!) but this makes a fab quick desert & my children love it.
Really Excellent
I have just upgraded to this icecream maker after using the Kenwood .8 litre machine. This one wins hands down. Actually, mine is not blue, it is white and green but they seem to be the same model - just different colours, I think. Mine makes a litre of ic cream so if this blue one makes more, I apologise.
The disc for this which is frozen in the freezer takes up little space, it makes more icecream and it is much easier to make and get out of the machine. I was pleasantly surprised after struggling with wasted, frozen iceream adhering to the Kenwood's sides, to find that the Philips does not end up with frozen, wasted icecream in this way; the icecream is easy to scoop out of the container to put in another to freeze in the freezer and the icecream, using Ben and Jerry's book so far, is delicious and fantastic (well, admittedly the Kenwood icecream also tasted delicious)
The motor runs very quietly.
The machine is very easy to clean.
This ice cream maker is stylish and functional - can seriously recommend it.
Excellent, Excellent and once again Exellent!
I spent a long time researching my ice cream maker purchase and I know that I definitely made the right choice. My mum has a different make and this Philips one is far superior.
I noticed that some makers required freezing of the whole bowls which is pretty impossible when you have a small(ish) freezer with limited space. The Philips only requires freezing of the disc (about the width of a side plate and the depth of about 1.5 inches) to be frozen which means that a very small amount of space is needed.
It is very easy to use and even after the ice cream is made, everything comes apart so that you are able to thoroughly clean. The amount of ice cream made is more than enough for about 4 people or for a few sittings if less people are eating. The ice cream was delicious and tasted much better than anything bought in the shop.
All in all, I am over the moon with this product and feel that I made the correct decision in buying this one. The fact that I have written this review proves how good it is because I have never done this for anything else I have bought.
One word of advice, I got sucked into buying the Ben & Jerry's ice cream recipe book at the same time that I bought the maker. To be quite frank, it is a waste of money - it doesn't really give you anything more than the book that comes with the maker. Of course, there are the weird and wonderful flavours that you would expect from B&J's but with a little bit of imagination you can do make up your own flavours without spending extra. It's all in the information provided with the maker.
If you are thinking about buying a maker, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed by this one.
