Manufacturer's Description
Add extra storage with Toshiba. In a stylish design, Toshiba USB 2.0 External Hard Drives are the perfect storage solution for your digital videos, photos and music files. The 3.5" USB hard drives may be used in a horizontal, or vertical orientation on your desktop. These high speed hard drives, ranging from 160GB to 1TB, provide excellent performance, and with their fanless design, are near-silent in operation. Connecting via USB, they are a great way to backup your files for future recovery, or as a storage solution for large media files such as HD video.
The User's Guide is uploaded on the drive itself.

Just what I wanted!
When I received this drive I was shocked at it's rather compact size as the picture shown gives the impression it's larger than it really is, but that's all the better because it now sits neatly on my desk unobtrusively. The operation is silent, and the case remains rather cool to the touch even after several hours of having it running. In fact the only way to know that something's happening is to touch it, when you will feel a very slight vibration as the disk operates. I reformatted to NTFS, which took about six hours to do, so I don't know if that's how it's supposed to be or if it should be faster. I've backed up the contents of my laptop to it and it didn't take long to do, so it's doing what I purchased it for, and doing it silently and efficiently. As per a previous comment, the display light on the drive is very bright indeed, and would give a laser a run for it's money, so if that's a problem, simply stick something over it and cover it up. Otherwise top marks, and Toshiba are a solid and reliable manufacturer of products, having owned other Toshiba products in the past.
Neat, quiet product that does its job and feels solidly built
This comes formatted for FAT files. Just reformat for NTFS before using it if that is what you need. Have copied >250Gb data to it and done several system back-ups + verifications without problem. Almost silent and feels solidly built. Only slight criticism is the LED is so bright I have turned it to face the other way and stuck a fragment of paper over it!
The back up system for idiots !
I confess,I'm not a computer whizz and I just wanted a back up system to save my photos, documents, settings and the odd music file in case my computer terminally crashed.
Using this baby could not be simpler, even for a duffer like yours truly.
Basically it's just a plug and play system to which you can just copy files directly. My XP system automatically detects the Toshiba and shows it as an copy option. Just click on the Tosh icon and Bob's your uncle !
My problem is. After copying all my important stuff I still have 98% capacity left on the Toshiba. I'll never fill it in 100 years !
