    Unbiased Review5
Having done a lot of research into a good medium sized television it came down to two: This and the LG26LG3000. There are plenty of reviews for the LG, all good, but a distinct lack of reviews for this one. Despite this, being a man i opted for the bigger screen. This, therefore, is for people stuck with the same disision i was faced with:

What tv do i get if i want an affordable medium sized HDTV with Freeview?

This tv is a 28", full HD tv. This means it has 1080p and for those who arent techy minded like me it is the top of the range. HD ready tvs are only 720. Some people may argue that "there's no point having full HD on that size tv!!" - true but there's no harm either considering it costs less than most HDready 26" tvs.

It has a decent freeview, very good quality although i hasten to add i need to upgrade my internal aerial to make the most out of it. It has oodles of connections that will satisfy the majority of us and it is rediculously simple to set up. Literally plug in, enter, enter, enter, wait, watch!!

For those serious gamers out there - ideal tv for a small-medium room. I have a PS3 and it looks excellent on there even through the scart. Cant wait till the HDMI cable comes!! Because it's 1080p (not 1080i) the lag is hardly detectable and the image is crystal clear. Its probably not as good as a PC but if you have an issue with that then dont buy a console and stick with a keyboard and mouse.

For serious movie lovers - action movies are superb, again because of the small lag all the action is shown the way it should be. Just watched a bit of 24 and was dumbfounded.

Some people may worry about the "vertical resoloution" of the tv. I didnt even really know what this was till i read a bit more into it. Apparantly there is a larger vertical resoloution and the main worry seems to be that it will have black bars on the top and bottom of the screen when watching widescreen. Firstly - the freeview automatically adapts to the screen size - no stretching and no loss of picture. Secondly - playing PS3 again auto adapts. Thirdly, watching blu-Ray - you can adjust the size with a minimal, i mean minimal, loss of picture on the sides. Its is hardly noticable and again the image isnt stretched. If you are going to fret about such a little thing pay the extra £200 for an equivelant tv with a smaller vertical resoloution. For me i couldn't justify it.

The last point i would like to make is about the manufacturer "Hannspree". Dont be put off if you havent heard of them before, they usually make computer monitors but for those who remember also used to make novelty tvs such as footballs etc. They are a well recognised monitor manufacturer and have made an excellent transition to the world of television. They are so confident with their work that they include a 2 year warranty as standard. Thats twice most (LG, sony etc) offer.

Overall it is an absolutely fantastic television and to get it for £300 is a bargin. I went out on a gamble despite a load of research and a distinct lack of reviews for this model. Sorry if i have waffeled on but now you can feel a bit more safe and hopefully stop thinking "this is too good to be true". I thought it was but it just keeps impressing me.

    All the best

    Big monitor for everything!5
I needed a large 28/32 inch monitor for my PC that could also be used to display the digital TV card in it and larger text/spreadsheets at 1920 x 1200 and still be able to read them. I looked at monitors costing up to £800 and decided a complete TV was a better value for money ( larger production quantities?) So I looked round for a good HD tv.
This Hannspree was the cheapest by far to claim the definition I wanted. It also had a large number of inputs that I now use for PC (HDMI), WII (scart), DVD/HDD recorder for VHS editing (HDMI), Dolby 5+1 sound system. I used a HDMI lead to the pc video card which improved the sharpness of text over the vga compact 15 pin lead. A whole A4 page of text can be read easily.
Having now had it a couple of weeks and played with all the settings I am well satisfied.
I was amazed that the freeview digital tuner would resolve over 70 stations and all the tv ones without pixellation, no other freeview tuner in the house will do this (45 miles from transmitter) Aerial is 21 element 2 stage amp plus 8 way distribution, all new wide signal Labgear. It was easy to set up and is simple to use, the remote has a separate button to sequentially select the input. VGA, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, Scart 1, Scart 2, Component, TV.
The plastic case and perforated speaker grill is well made from nice feely materials and the top ledge of the screen now has my webcam, pc remote and Wii sensing bar perched.
In the room is a sofa bed and visitors now have a decent sized tv to watch. Cheers,
    Peter

    Very pleased5
Having bought a playstion i found i couldnt find time to play with it due to my wifes demand on Tv programs and wanted a Tv i could link in to digital that i could not only play my games on but could also utilise the playstation to play Blueray movies.
After searching and giving up on the idea of a 1080p set for the time being i was a little weary of buying this set as various reviews mention that the picture doesnt show the correct size as its not 16.9 resolution.

Well i bought one, it arrived in two days and was set up in minutes. The play station was plugged in and the quality is excellent. Next i played a blueray movie and again it is excellent. As the tv is one end of the room and my big Samsung is in the front of the room i can clearly see both sets to compare identical programs.
both are 1080p the Samsung was 5 times the price and is clearly a great picture but not 5 times better. The screen image is a little cropped on the edges but you have to be really fussy to let that bother you or you could change the picture size to included the full width but get the black bars top and bottom, i prefer to have full size as the cropping is so negligable it wouldnt be noticed if you didnt have another set to view.
The only niggle i would have is that the spec states 1000 page teletext.
After buying new leads, rerouting cables etc in an attemp to view text i thought the set must have a fault of some sort. Not a problem really as i can always see text on the other set. i was about to arrange a return/replacement but decided to look at the Hannspree web site to see if i could find any tips to setting up.
The Hannspree web site clearly states that the set has 1000page text but also states that this facility isnt available in the UK.

If you are looking at this set for games and normal viewing in a smaller room it is excellnt value for the money.
