Yes, Yes, Yes!
I bought this HP notebook and I cannot tell you how delighted I am by its quality, features and performance. Notebooks have clearly come of age - this machine is a beautiful object in its own right and is finished in a patterned high gloss black with vivid blue back lighting of controls - many of which are touch sensitive. It is slim, compact and relatively light. The quality of the 15.4 inch widescreen display is incredible - it is rich in colour and contrast and fed by a 128Mb NVidia graphics card. The display is complemented by excellent on board sound from the built in Altec Lansing speakers. Windows Vista Home Premium runs very smoothly and the wireless networking is dead easy to set up - it worked first time. From a features perspective there is plenty too - a slim remote control, built in memory card reader, webcam (1.3 megapixel), Lightscribe DVD burner (e.g. it etches the title onto your discs) and stereo mikes. The built in mouse facility is excellent too with a special "virtual" slider for scrolling. In summary, this machine is a bargain and, despite the many features for the money, of impeccable quality both in build and performance. It is therefore unreservedly recommended unless you are a high end gamer. This notebook will serve the overwhelming majority of notebook users for years to come - buy it with confidence.
Great
I bought this laptop for my son. he set it up with no problems and im writing this review on it now. there wasnt any messing around really. he connected straight away to our house wireless network. email setup was quick. so was everything. Its quick and windows vista seems to work with all my sons software.
the laptop looks amazing, on the casing is a shadowed wave pattern which is very attractive. the quick play controls are very good, touch pad, scrolling touch pad for the volume.
This isnt our first HP laptop and it certainly doesnt dissapoint, it is just as good a previous models.
Great Laptop, Great Value.
I use my laptop mainly for word processing, internet use, watching DVD's, and recording. I wanted something fairly future proof, a decent amount of storage space, and a nice screen. There was plenty of competition in this price range, but based on previous experience with HP laptops, I feel they are a reliable laptop that will last a long time, and if you want to sell them on at a later date, they tend to hold a good value.
It's a fairly quiet machine, and doesn't appear to overheat. The design is very attractive, and it's a very solid, good quality piece of kit. The finger pad is very comfortable, it has a scroll bar too, which is very handy. I like the feel and response of the keyboard, but the shift key takes a lot of getting use to, as it's almost halved due to perfect rectangle design of the keyboard, you might find yourself hitting the top arrow key instead for a while, but you'll get used to it.
How about Vista? It's pretty, but with only 1GB of memory, it's a little slow. With this machine, you'll really want to invest in 2GB's of DDR2 running Vista, but if you have a copy of XP, and plan to install that instead, you'll be fine with just 1GB. I put 2GB in mine upon receipt, and as much as I loved XP, I'm quite happy to continue using Vista, although at factory settings, there are few little things you might want to change or switch off, User Account Control for instance, a very annoying feature with no real purpose.
The battery lasts for around 2 hours if you're using it, but there's a lot you can do to conserve the battery power, certain features can be turned off and the screen can be darkened, but I don't suggest you go anywhere without your adaptor tucked into your bag.
Gaming wise, if you want to play a bit of counter strike, or any pre 2002 game, it should be perfectly capable, but for newer, more graphically intensive games, forget it. You need to be spending well over a thousand for a decent gaming laptop.
Overall, I'm delighted with mine, and luckily, my screen didn't have any deal pixels. You know, HP won't replace a laptop unless it has over 7 dead pixels I believe... Anyway, if you want a laptop for the same kinds of purposes as I did, I think you'll be very happy this one.
