A Breath of Fresh Air5
I've been making soap for a good few years and have read most of the books that are available on the subject. I am so pleased to see a book that is clear and conicise in its directions and suggestions and explains exactly what is needed and why. I think it could be called a manual for making cold process soap and will be useful to beginners and experienced soapmakers.
This book dispels many of the myths of soapmaking and just has to be a 'must' for all potential soapmakers and also for those of us who think we know just what we are doing but can be surprised by finding out different methods and encourage us to look at things from a different angle.
As a gift for someone who is wanting to start soapmaking this is just the right thing as it is not only written in easy to understand language but also is more like a conversation than a lecture. There are recipes for the beginner and the experienced that will make lovely soaps and all the time the insistence that the reader learns how to make their own recipes and doesn't just tell you to follow what the author says.
For us in the UK it is good to see a soapmaking book that is written by an American and yet is just as much use to us here because the measures are in both ounces and grams and so easy to understand. And the resources at the back list UK companies as well as those in the UK.
There is legislation in the UK for the selling of soap that doesn't apply in the USA and this is not covered, but is easy to find if you search on the internet.
I would recommend this book to both beginners and experienced soapmakers alike and think it is a very useful addition to the soapmaking books that are available to us all.

Smart Soapmaking4
I have been making soaps for about 3 years now and when I started reading this book, I found I could not put it down! I found it very easy to read with a lovely encouraging feel to soapmaking - if you are new to soapmaking and a little scared of the process this book dispels any myths and does give you the confidence to try! The way it is written is informal, light hearted and just as it is! It has common sense for the newbie soaper to good tips for the more experienced. It will be one of the books that I will keep in my collection that I will periodically go back to! The only thing I would have liked to see was some pictures of the gorgeous soaps it talks about!! :)

I love this book5
I am new to soapmaking and had bought a few books before seeing this one. It is brilliant, the author has taken great steps to ensure that the book is easy and straight forward to read.
There are some wonderful recipes included too, so you won't be stuck for a decent soap for a long time.
