A BSA rather than a Boss!
A touch of nostalgia. As a teenager I used to watch this program avidly, along with millions of others. Despite its shortcomings you can get absorbed in this and switch off from the real world. There is too much reality T.V., and pseudo-reality soaps at present, and drama productions seem to have to be done on a high budget. Must have been shot on a small budget - perhaps needs a 21st c. version!

HADLEIGH GETS MARRIED
This third series is by far the best yet, concentrating for the most part on Hadleigh's domestic life. While looking for a new manservant, he happens to run into an attractive young woman named Jennifer Caldwell ( played by Hilary Dwyer) and within a short space of time they are married. Her father is a successful businessman who has had to work for his money, and Jennifer makes it quite plain from the outset that she finds it difficult to accept Hadleigh's privileged position. Initially she supports him, but she is headstrong and begins to question eveything that he says or does, to the point where Hadleigh begins to wonder if he has made the right decision in marrying her.
There is also some friction between her and the pompous new manservant Sutton ( played by Peter Dennis), about whom certain things come to light during the course of the 13 episodes.
Rather like a book which you cannot put down, I could hardly wait to find out what happened in each successive episode. Highly entertaining, and Ambrosine Phillpotts as Lady Helen has been great fun to watch all the way through.
One minor gripe : why did they change the theme tune? I much prefer the original.
Just gets better and better
Gerald Harper is completely elegant and believable in the title role, as are all the regulars and many of the guest cast. Hadleigh has a favourable background, is switched-on, and in touch with all the different classes.
The scripts and direction are of a very high standard and the production values are generally sound, certainly getting better in Season 3. The better stories are where the lead character is involved in business deals or social issues.
Bring out Season 4 as quickly as possible.
