Product Description

Many chessplayers find it difficult to improve their game beyond a certain level. They can see basic tactics, know a little about openings and can calculate a few moves ahead. However, so do their opponents. What is the next level, and how does one get there? This book is aimed at chess-players who have progressed well beyond beginner level and have acquired the basic skills required to play at club level, but need guidance to improve their understanding of chess. It is based on the training program that Hall himself followed when he was an up-and-coming player. The lessons are not based on 'quick fixes', but instead provide a well-rounded course in all aspects of chess that will equip the reader well for his or her chessboard battles, and provide a firm yet flexible basis for further improvement.

Customer Reviews

Chess training made fun!!!5
This book is just what I've been looking for for along time. How do you study your own games? How do you come up with the right move? You know the elements of strategy and tactics but how do you use it in your own games? You'll find suggestions to these and other questions in this book. Based on his own experience IM Hall gives you ways to improve your chess and that from a practical point of view. It sets up suggestions for ways of methological training always keeping in mind that training should be fun!!!
Chess should be fun, as Hall states, and the book is filled with humourious anecdotes from Hall's own games. Like when he opened a game with 1.d4 and suddenly found himself "out of book" when the opponent answered 1...d5.

I recommend this book for everybody rated 1200-1700 who needs an efficient training course to improve and develop their game.
