Anti-Sicilian systems are the bane of a Sicilian player's life. Whether it be with the crude but dangerous Grand Prix Attack, one of a number of crazy gambits, or a sleep-inducing line such as 3 Bb5 or 2 c3, White's aim is to stop Black reaching his favourite line of the exciting Open Sicilian. So what should Black do? This book aims to provide the answers to this, and many other questions. Gallagher demonstrates uncompromising approaches to the anti-Sicilian systems, giving Black ample chances to win. The text is illustrated with clear, annotated diagrams.

Useful opening suggestions for the club player
It would be a little difficult to thoroughly examine all Anti-Sicilian lines in 155 pages, so the reader should not expect this book to solve all of his problems. It won't. Gallagher has done a good job of selecting the key variations that White is likely to follow in order to avoid an Open Sicilian and all of the material is relevant with no unnecessarily long theoretical lines.
The one disappointment, however, is that given the limited ambitions of this book Gallagher does not explain each variation in terms of plans - a more modern and much more useful approach for the type of player who will benefit from this book.
So there we have it. Lists of useful variations, but lists nonetheless.
