Green & Black's is one of the best-known brands in the food world, feted both for its quality and for its ethical credentials. Launched on a shoestring in 1991 by wholefood pioneer Craig Sams and his journalist wife Josephine Fairley, it is now an internationally renowned, award-winning brand and multi-million pound business. In this book the couple tell their story, relating early ups and downs, chronicling their work with cacao farmers in Belize and talking candidly about the challenges of running a successful ethical company in a cut-throat world. Both inspiring and entertaining, "The Story of Green & Black's" shows what is possible when you tear up the rule book and follow your instincts (And your tastebuds ...).

Sweet dreams are made of this
Green & Black's is a modern day story of business rags to riches and a makes for a great read even if having the two voices of the founders throughout the book can make it a bit disjointed at times. Green & Black's was not an overnight success in the sense that its co-founder, Craig Sams, had been in the wholefood business for a long time before deciding to make a push into the world of chocolate. Undoubtedly his years of graft and commercial nous helped enormously in the ultimate success of Green & Black's. This book shows the ups and downs of running a start-up business with certain business ethics and then trying to build it up in a tough commercial world. I do find it slightly amusing/irritating that the owners feel they have to justify the ultimate sale of the business to Cadbury's in case people think they have sold out. Well of course they sold out, and no amount of justification can make it seem otherwise. On the other hand, 99% of the population, given the chance of making a massive profit would have done the same, so good luck to them!
What an inspiring story !
I think this book is such an inspiration for anyone who would like to do something in the (busyness)world and make a difference and be successful( in that it inspires other people to perhaps think laterally ...creatively...out of the box) and the authors bring so many strands of wisdom together to make a great convergence through time! I think its important to strive understand the bigger picture and Green and Blacks is inspired! Well done Sam Craig & Jo Fairley!
