Synopsis
Chicago's County General opens its doors for more highly-charged drama, ER style. In this, the show's seventh season, Carter (Noah Wyle) completes his drug rehabilitation with the support of Abby (Maura Tierny), whose own life is in disarray after she and Kovac (Goran Visjinc) are mugged, and her bipolar-inflicted mother (Sally Field in an Emmy-winning turn) comes to stay. Meanwhile, Greene (Anthony Edwards) proposes to and marries a heavily pregnant Corday (Alex Kingston). Tragedy ensues when Greene is diagnosed with terminal cancer, giving him only weeks to live. Not wanting to upset his new wife--who is caught up in a malpractice suit--he keeps his illness a secret. This season also includes the explosive 150th episode in which a massive train wreck mobilizes the ER doctors and nurses to the scene. With its multiple intersecting storylines, clever plot twists and realistic characters, ER remains one of the finest dramas ever to grace the small screen.
Customer Reviews
Not the best but still superior
In this season, the County General crew faces many trying and difficult storylines. It also previews a new era in the course of "ER." This and season 8 would see the last of the originals before they (except for Carter) begin to exit the series. Carter returns from rehab in Atlanta and battles his inner demons. He and Abby's friendship is mended and changes as she becomes his AA sponsor. Romano continues to bully Benton in his new role as an attendee(with a faculty title) before Romano fires him and tortures Benton throughout the season after Benton reports Romano for an ethics violation early in the season. Abby becomes Carol's "replacement" as she is kicked out of med school and forced to become a nurse in the ER full-time after her ex-husband, Richard, fails to pay her tuition.Greene and Corday get engaged, but then fight a malpractice suit against Corday. Chen becomes pregnant and gives up her child.
There are alot of new characters and guest starts brought in that really shake up the ER as well. Abby's bi-polar mom Maggie (Sally Field)comes to Chicago to visit Abby and embarasses her. (Loyal viewers know this would be the beggining of Abby's family drama that still continues to play out on the series). Frank, the desk clerk, is introduced too this season. Morris Chestnut plays a Dr. (in another department) that is Chen's baby's father. Elizabeth Mitchell plays Kim Legaspi a Psychiatrist and Weaver's partner. James Crowell plays a mysterious priest who befriends the equally mysterious (at this time) Kovac and begins to tell of his past in Croatia to the priest.
The worst part of the season is how the storylines will wear you out and the Carter-Kovac-Abby love triangle is born and- although just in it's early stages- is a struggle throughout the season. The annoying Dave Mallucci and the boring Cleo Finch are still series regulars. Plus, the Dr. Greene brain cancer battle begins which really begins the actual ending of the two eras of "ER".
However, the episodes "Sand and Water" "Sailing Away," the birth of Greene and Corday's baby ("Ella") and the 150th episode where Carter does a surgical procedure from a disaster site while getting directions from Benton over a cell phone are great, memorable episodes.
ER season 7.
One of my friends recommended ER to me, and as I saw this for an extremely cheap price in the shop I thought; go for it. And I was very glad that I did.
ER season 7 I found absolutely amazing. I had lots of fun spotting the guest stars and what other shows they recurred on, and in season 7 there are lots to spot. Wentworth Miller is in the first episode at some point. Very interesting.
The acting talent has improved dramatically from season 6. With the exception of Carter, whom I'm almost 100% sure has the range of an egg. Nevertheless, this does not distract from what promises to be, and lives up to its expectations of one of the best seasons. Three characters from the first season still remain, Drs. Green, Carter and Benton. Dr. Green in particular, Anthony Edwards, plays an integral part to especially the latter half of the season, with his illness. He can act very well, along with his very British wife, Dr. Corday.
Dr. Weaver actually has a proper storyline, and this is possibly one of the best so far in 13 seasons of ER, and her supporting actress, Elizabeth Mitchell does a great job. It really is a good storyline. Abby and Luka are as intersting as ever, Ming Na's character is unfortunately under-used and Michael Michelle's character is unfortunately over-used. And of course, Paul McCrane does a good job of his 'wicked witch' style chief whilst Erik Palladino manages to be not quite as irritating as last season.
We have many appearances by Sally Field, always a highlight, and do not detract from the ever-increasing amount of gore we are seeing, and its now not a surprise when there is a fire in the ER room once a season.
The episodes are fantastic, and the acting is at its best. It is only a shame that the eighth season sees so many departures. I've attempted to not put in any spoilers as they really annoy me, but hopefully have informed you well enough. I advise you to buy ER season 7 immediately, and with vehemence.
