a spell-binding recording
This is an absolutely spell-binding recording of a fantastic piece. The soloists and chorus are spot on and the listener is swept away by the dynamics of the music. For those who are new to Durufle's work this will be a real treat. This is a CD to play on a Sunday afternoon to escape from the stresses of the real world...let the overtones of Gregorian Chant work their magic on your mind. The organ pieces are well worth a listen as well!
A Powerful Recording -- An Aural History
There is no better opportunity to find out what the composer really had in mind for his/her works than to hear the composer themself performing them! This recording, with Maurice Durufle conducting his own Requiem, gives the listener something more than the written music can give -- an aural history of a piece. Other recordings might have better mixing or acoustics, but this is true art by the artist himself. The 3 organ works at the end are stunning. Of all the recordings of the Durufle Requiem you might end up with in your library, this should be the one you purchase first.
