Customer Reviews

Great!5
I'm 17 years old and learning to drive. I've had 4 lessons so far but bought this book earlier in the year. Even if I do say so myself, I am doing very well. And I'd say it's all because of this book.

It explains the theory test and the marks at the beginning. It also explains about lisences and choosing an instructor. Then it goes on to the questions section The questions are on one side of the page and the answers are on the other. So it's easy to cover the answers up with a piece of paper. And it makes it easier than flipping to the back of the book and searching for the answers. Not only does it give you the answers, it also explains them. If you don't understand something, it's easily explained in this book.

Also at the back of the book is the Highway Code which is very handy to refer to.

I'd recommend any learner drivers to get this book.

The Official Theory Test for Car Drivers'5
'The Official Theory Test for Car Drivers' was the first book of it's kind when the theory test was introduced for all learner drivers way back on 1st July 1996.
This book will help you prepare for the theory test.
It's the official DSA ( Driving Standards Agency) book which gives all the questions and answers with explanations and a copy of the new revised 2004 edition of the Highway Code.
The format is well set out with an easy to read style. The questions are set to the left of the page with a choice of answers. The answers on the right hand side with a brief explanation why they are correct.

This book is now on its seventh edition. Previous updates have been for changes in the actual questions. The DSA tend to add new questions and delete others, however, this new edition has a new revamp to the style with plenty of bright illustrations and is very easy to work through. Our only negative view is perhaps, now the Highway Code is included, we could get a reference to that from each question and answer. This would make the answers a lot easier to understand.

Expensive but worth it4
If you buy and read this book, you will pass your theory test, just as I did this morning! It contains all the possible questions and answers, so rather than just learning the facts you can become familiar with the kinds of questions asked. It is worth noting that there are a number of questions not necessarily contained in books like the Highway Code - for example, what is the meaning of tailgating, or 'what disability does a person carrying a white stick with a red band have?'. With any other book, you can't be sure you've covered everything - with this one, you know you have, and you know you're familiar with any tricky questions. The only downside is the price - rather a lot given you really only need to spend a day reading it. However, it's cheaper than re-taking your test!
