Editorial Reviews

Revd Dr Michael Green, Adviser in Evangelism to the Archbishops of Canterbury and York
'Undoubtedly the most readable accurate translation of the Bible currently in English.'

Review
'Over the past 21 years the NIV has established itself as one of the most widely used and appreciated modern versions of the Bible. The quality of its translation richly deserves this wide recognition and I hope that it will continue to be of equal benefit to many more people in the years to come.' (George Carey, former Archbishop of Canterbury )

'Undoubtedly the most accurate translation of the Bible currently in English.' (Revd Dr Michael Green )

'What is most satisfying about [the NIV] is its combination of fidelity to the original text with felicitous English language.' (Revd Dr John Stott, Rector Emeritus of All Souls Church )

Their main concern is that the NIV is faithful to the original languages while producing a clear, beautifully written and dignified translation suitable for private and public use.

Let the Word of God Dwell in you RIchly2
If you spend a lot of time driving then it's great to be able to listen to God's word and allow it to minister to you. For this reason I am hesitant to discourage anyone from buying this product.

However, you should know what you are buying before you buy it. On the front cover it says "Full Bible". In smaller print on the back it says that the Old Testament is abridged. Well, I was disappointed to discover just how abridged it is.For example: only 39 out of the 150 Psalms are included. Most of Numbers, Deuteronomy and Ezekiel is omitted as are the really interesting parts of Daniel. I reckon less than a third, perhaps only a quarter is here.

The recording quality is variable and often below normal CD standards. The reading quality is also variable, but most of it is good. Juliet Stevenson who reads some of the Psalms is wonderful.

This product could be so much better. Despite my reservations, God can really use it in your life.

You say the Bible is so important? Have you read it?5
A Christian teacher, addressing his audience, asked the casual question, "how many of you believer the Bible is the most important book you can read?" All the people rightly raised their hands. Pausing to survey the scene, he waited a moment, then asked the second question: "How many of you have actually read it?" As comparatively less hands were raised, he added, "not just some of it, all of it - cover to cover." The number of hands which remained in the air was hardly inspiring!

It seems a sad truth that although many Christians would emphatically proclaim that the Bible is the Word of God, and they believe it, few have actually read it properly. Few take the time to go through each and every book and examine what is written. Some mistakenly restrict themselves to The New Testament, little realising that they cannot hope to grasp the depth of its meaning, or realise the glory and marvellous provision of the New Covenant, without examining all the scripture from Genesis to Revelation.

The Bible in One Year makes the task simple. If you are prepared to allocate a few minutes of your time each day, in one year you will have been exposed to all the scripture. This is an excellent way to broaden your reading in the Bible, and it will open up areas of the Bible to you for further study and meditation.

I heartily recommend The Bible In One Year!

Best study bible?5
NIV Study bible although a bit large and heavy to carry around all the time is certainly a good investment. I have used it both for personal study, writing papers, preparing for group bible studies and during my time at bible college.
The layout of the cross references and footnotes is helpful without having to flick too much to other pages. The not too concise concordance at the back is sufficient to find most of the bible verses and topics you might be looking up.
I have no regrets about the finacial outlay to purchase it I only wish it were available in CD form and I would be buying that as well!
