Customer Reviews
An excellent companion to the Alpha course
I bought this book when I was starting out on the Alpha course. A lot of what is in the book is shown in Gumbel's speeches shown on the course, but the book allows time and space to go into more detail.
I found this book extremely helpful, comforting and thought-provoking as someone who is just adopting Christianity. It doesn't provide all the answers, which never could be answered anyway. But it does make you think and it makes you feel that someone really understands what you're going through as a new Christian, which can be a scary but ultimately wonderful time. Gumbel's anecdotes are funny and provide a lighter edge to what could be viewed as a 'heavy' subject matter.
A Very Good Book For New Christians and Old
I enjoyed this book - it contains historical information about the origins of the bible, offers proof of its authenticity, and provides detailed answers to common questions about Christianity. It also gives life experience examples throughout, in relation to Christian beliefs, that I found helpful and could identify with.
This is a good book for all new Christians to read, as well as mature Christians, because it competently explains answers to questions often asked by those interested in learning more about the Christian faith. It is well grounded in the bible and easy to read. I would certainly recommend reading it.
life changing
i am only sixteen years of age and picked up 'questions of life' during a nasty break up with a serious long term girlfriend.. during the reading of this book my life changed... i read it without a stop and am now re-reading it... nicky gumbel's words are timeless and i broke down crying more than twenty times during the reading of the book... for someone who hadnt cried in five years, including at his cousin's death two years previously crying is some feat... the book is emotive, touching, enlightening... i have never seen stronger evidence presented for the existance of jesus and the truth of his ressurection... during the reading of the book i honestly felt the holy spirit enter my heart on numerous occasions... i would have called myself a christian before reading the book but now i realise i merely believed - i was not participating in the greatest part of christianity; a relationship with god... This is a must read for any christian and any person who worries about life... I think the alpha motto sums it up; is there more to life than this? I believe this book answers the question...
