Quite Good3
Even though I am a big fan of Agatha Christie, my overall opinion is that this is not one of her best.
After saying that however, it does have one of the most interesting and original solutions of all.
What seems to let it down is its readability. I found it easy to get lost, both with the plot and the characters, and often found myself having to re-read sections of the book to get it clear in my mind.
If you are looking to read Christie for the first time then I wouldn't start with this one.
This is definitely one for the die-hard fans.

One, Two, Buckle My Shoe4
In very basic terms you could categorise Agatha Christie novels into two different types; there’s the classic Christiesque English country house complete with murder and a cast of Cluedo like suspects or a more conspiracy theory type novel, full of espionage, international crime rings and high powered evil foreigners.

“One, Two, Buckle my Shoe” falls quite definitely into the latter category and fans of this style will find this a intriguing and satisfying tale of murder, mystery and suspense.

Poor old M. Poirot is having to make one of his twice yearly visits to the dentist and being a coward of any type of pain he is not looking forward to the experience. Mr Morley the dentist is however a skilful practitioner and soon M. Poirot is back on his way. As he leaves the dentists he is stopped by a very pretty foot and ankle descending from a car, alas for Poirot the perfectionist the image is spoilt by the foot being encased in a cheap patient leather shoe with large clumsy buckles, one of which falls loose from the shoe. Every the gentleman, Poirot retrieves the lost buckle and returns it to the owner, a lady of middle age with untidy hair.

Later that day Poirot is called upon by his old friend Chief Inspector Japp of Scotland Yard, it would seem that Mr Morley just minutes after attending to Poirot has committed suicide in his surgery. Poirot rushes to the scene and together the two men start to put together the last moments of Mr Morley’s life. The last patient Mr Morley saw was the mysterious Greek Mr Amberiotis but earlier than this Mr Morley also treated the eminent and powerful banker Alistair Blunt. M. Poirot also remember a hot-headed looking young gentleman from the waiting room and what part has the lady with the buckled shoes to play?

The story twists and turns as one expects from a Christie novel and the possible motives fly thick and fast. Poirot, of course, if above it all and applying the most basic logic soon decides who is the murderer and what their motive is, the only problem being how to prove it.

I myself am more a fan of the first type of Christie book I described and I find this other type slightly harder going. There’s not much humour to be found in this book and it does suffer from being slightly dry. That said it is still a good read and well recommended.

A Little Complicated...3
A wonderful book, not in the slightest disappointing, but perhaps one of the hardest to follow. The plotline, and evidence that comes to light is in such a way, that maybe a second reading is required. But none the less a good book, with the very essence of Christie caught in every page.
