The England we once knew
Betjeman's poems capture the quintessential elements of English life either side of WW2. The accompanying music of Jim Parker, with members of the Philharmonia Orchestra is a magical and hugely appropriate support to Betjeman's own voice on this wonderfully evocative CD. See also 'Late Flowering Love', and 'Banana Blush'; Betjeman's voice gives us an honest and amusing take on English habits and human relations. (Note: some of the words are not perhaps for those with a nervous disposition!) Parker's music appeals and complements all three of these excellent, high-quality CDs.
