Synopsis
In this spoof of STAR WARS and a handful of other sci-fi flicks from the 1970s and '80s, space-bum-for-hire Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his half-dog/half-man sidekick, Barf (John Candy), must rescue a spoiled Druish princess (Daphne Zuniga) from the evil Lord Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) in time to pay off intergalatic gangster Pizza the Hut. With SPACEBALLS, director Mel Brooks is at it again, this time with a science-fiction parody with all the blue-screen special effects and weird makeup (though in this film, things are always slightly off-kilter and unpolished). Here, maverick space travelers set out to save the planet Druidia, which is being harassed by the Spaceballs, a sinister group attempting to pilfer Druidia's air resources. Among the many gags and jokes is a hilarious parody of a classic scene from ALIEN. Brooks himself (who appears in two different roles) makes one of his funniest acting appearances as Yogurt, a send-up of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK's Yoda.
From the Back Cover
May the farce be with you in this hysterically funny space oddity, created by comic genius Mel Brooks, that will send you into hyperspace with fits of laughter! Lampooning everything from Star Wars to Star Trek, this outrageous send-up of epic sci-fi movies is full of cosmic crazies who score eight trillion on the laugh-meter. Fearless-and clueless-space heroes Lone starr (Bill Pullman) and his half man/half dog sidekick Barf (John Candy) wage interstellar warfare to free Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) from the evil clutches of Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis). On the way to the rescue-in their Winnebago-they confront the huge, gooey Pizza the Hut (Voice of Dom De Luise), sassy robot Dot Matirx (voice of Joan Rivers) and a wise little creature named Yogurt (Brooks), who teaches them the mystical power of "The Schwartz" in order to bring peace- and merchandising rights-to the entire galaxy!

It Really Does Have It's Moments :D
When I first watched Spaceballs, it was back in the year 1998, I originally taped it from Sky and I immediatley showed it to my friends. The Film Was Hillarious from Beginning to end with the odd stereotypical joke put in here and there.
One of the great things about this movie is the fact that it's a comedy we all know and love, newer comedy is crude and tasteless but this one pleads to all ages. Everyone loves Mel Brooks and in my opinion this is one of my favourite MB Comedy Flicks, plenty of cultural references are made along with big Star Wars Merchandising Campaigns :p. It's a film the whole family can watch together and everyone will gaurantee a laugh.
Even though I bought this for £10 a few years ago on DVD, you can get it for even cheaper now and even though the Special Features may lack, it's individualism is the fact that the DVD is dual sided meaning you can watch it in both Widescreen and Fullscreen at your own choice. I suggest you buy this DVD even if your not a fan of Star Wars because you will certainly have a good time.
Mel Brooks IS George Lucas.
Underrated film, Spaceballs.
I always liked it.
I still do, even though it's stupid and obvious.
Helps if you like Star Wars.
And other Sci-fi films.
There's a neat Transformers parody in it, too.
And a strange bit where they all watch themselves on video.
Hope this review has been helpful.
I doubt it.
Classic Mel Brooks
This is one of the funniest films ever, Mel brooks other films such as Blazing saddles and Robin hood men in tights were all great films but this is definately one of his best. It is just a huge spoof of Star wars and star trek with characters such as Pizza the hut and dark helmut played by Ruck moranis who is one of the funniest characters featuring his huge helmet and heavy breathing this film is a classic BUY IT NOW !!!!
