Synopsis
Steven Seagul plays Billy Ray Lancing, a former undecover government agent working on a wildlife refuge finds himself back in action when he discovers that a young girl he's been writing and sending money to in an Eastern European orphanage (through a bona fide international program, honest guv) is actually being victimised by a human trafficking ring. Mr Seagal gets over there double-quick and kicks some ass.
Customer Reviews
Not a Hollywood flick, but not bad either!
Apart from the dubious Seagal voice dubbing during the story telling, the villain was great, the story line plausible, scripted well and produced to a better standard than many of Seagal's recent Hollywood flops - Anglo/Polish production proving to be good value for money... hope future Seagal movies will keep to this standard (and he looks healthier too!)
What????? Seagal what are you doing???
I love Seagal films no matter how bad so I would give this a 5* but I thought I would be fair to others that do not share the Seagal Gene.
It is about Seagal and a little girl in eastern Europe who write to each other (for reasons never explained) But when Steve receives a letter saying that she will be unable to write to him anymore he decides to go and find her.
The action in this film is better than in many of his recent efforts but can be typified by one scene where he (that should read his double) walks down some stairs and is grabbed around the neck, no fall, no punches just grabs him and Steve decides to use his double? The there is a sword fight at the films climax but it is slow and really staged.
My favourite moments in this film are when Seagal is dubbed by an impersonator who must have thought he was Michael Jackson as it sounded nothing like Seagal. I can only imagine that Steve must have been "busy" when they asked him to come in and touch up some of the sound.
In all rather rubbish but I love this kind of trash.
ONE OF SEAGAL'S BETTER EFFORTS
Out of Reach (2004) was another Seagal straight-to-video film. Originally this film was set to be directed by Ringo Lam. But during the production, Mr. Lam was frustrated by the bad script and tried to re-write the film. He was let go and another Hong Kong film maker Po Chieh Leung was brought on to helm the production. The film is pretty uneven and questionable at times but the director has managed to create a watchable film.
Steven Seagal stars as a retired federal agent who corresponds with a Eastern European girl. One day she stops writing and a bored Seagal decides to fly to Bulgaria to find out why his little pen pal has stopped writing. Whilst in country, he finds out that there's more than meets the eye and nothing is as it seems. The main villain is a very creepy individual who prefers the company of adolescent girls instead of women and likes to fence with his spineless lackeys for pleasure. Can Steven find the girl, polish off the bad guys and bring some rogue agents to justice or will the be Out of Reach!!??!
Not a bad film but it's marred by a lot of post production tinkering and looping (they couldn't even bring back Seagal to do his own dubbing). The last twenty minutes are the best in the film with a nice finale between Seagal and the sleazy scumbag.
Recommended for action fans.
