Better than Scrabble
We've been playing Scrabble for many years and Upwords for 2 years now.
We think Upwords is much the better game because the board doesn't get blocked up all the time as it does with Scrabble.
You do have to learn to think in a different way so takes a little while to get used to but is definitely worth the effort.
Only major complaint is the flimsiness and awkwardness of the board - not a good piece of design.
Absolutely great
I received this game for Christmas about 1998/9 and I have been in love with it ever since. It's a very addictive adaptation of classic Scrabble -except this time you can put tiles on top of tiles to make new words! It's great fun for all the family, full stop.
The design is very well done too, because unlike Scrabble, the tiles and the board are designed so the tiles slot in and stay neat on the board, a gripe I've always had with Scrabble. The tiles stack up easily and neatly too, and theres a Qu tile instead of Q! What more could you want?
If you are a word game fan (Countdown, Scrabble, Hangman etc.) you will love this game.
To trounce and trounce again
My friend Jemima Puttyrubberduck and I just love this game. It's far better than Scrabble because, if your opponent has played a good word, you can change it, even slightly, and get the points for yourself. It brings out the clever child in all of us.
