The Perfect Film5
Forget The Godfather, forget Citizen Kane, forget Sunset Boulevard, Gone With The Wind, Seven Samurai, Goodfellas - in fact, forget every other film you have ever seen in your entire life. The Foreigner is THE BEST FILM EVER MADE. Seagal delivers yet another performance which literally explodes with emotional intensity. He truly is the Brando of the direct-to-video action genre. Unlike so many Seagal films, this one has a story for the ages. It's about this guy who blows up a plane to cover his backside - or something like that, and it's all very confusing and complicated and needlessly detailed and quite frankly not worth figuring out. BUT, there is a massive body count and lots of cool explosions and people being shot and flying through the air and being flipped into frozen moats and guzzing fake wine in Eastern Europe and pretending it's Versaille and double-dealing and all that sort of thing. Anyway, forget the movie itself, because if you expect too much out of the movie you may be disappointed - but The Foreigner is just an awesome movie from every other point of view. I love it and have watched it about forty times. I would rather cut off my own head - no, scratch that - I would rather bend my own elbow the wrong way and throw myself through some plate glass than not watch this movie!

The worst film i have ever had the misfortune to see1
Possibly the most cliched, boring and generally rubbish film i have ever seen. The plot is discgraceful - it manages to be cliched and yet makes little sense at the same time. Seagal gives one of his usual appalling wooden performances in playing this implausible character, Jon Cold (even the name seems far-fetched and stupid). A film to avoid at all costs.

Worse and worse1
Sadly, as the years go by Seagal's movies just get worse and worse. This one has an inpenetrable plot and consists of a sequence of explosions and gun play. Seagal is typecast in the "ex-special forces tough guy" character now, which largely consists of him running around with a gun. He doesn't even bother to do any Aikido in his movies anymore, which he should as that is something he is genuinely good at. Dare I say it, perhaps he could afford to lose a few pounds too? Give this one a miss, and get "Under Siege" out instead.
