Customer Reviews

excellent little tv stand. not too much glass. not too shiny. perfect size for my 32in LCD TV.5
dimensions that Amazon could not give! 27in wide. 17.5in deep. 17.5in high with shelves at approx. 2in and 10in from floor.

I took a chance and ordered this anyway as it was so cheap! Glad I did because it does the job a treat. Not too big, not too shiny and not too much glass and great cable cover down the back (couldn't bear the thought of dust, finger prints and wires all over the place, bad enough they're all glass stands now as it is!) Fits my 32in widescreen LCD TV perfectly but doubt you wouldn't really want to go much bigger with this size stand.

Flawed but functional, especially if you're on a budget4
I purchased the 'Strand Aspex Contour 3 TV Stand' on the strength of it's dimensions and price. Comparatively the TV stand is very well priced undercutting the nearest rivals by £20 or so. The stand arrives flat-packed as you'd imagine and is very well packaged and shipped by Amazon (especially with super-saver shipping which is free).

The quality of the stand however is not the best it has to be said. The glass is very well cut and shaped and feels strong and sturdy, however the supporting legs and back panel aren't quite so well constructed. Two of the upright 'legs' I received for example had come lose from their end-caps, the end caps are used to connect the stand together so this was a little worrying. I managed to fix this by slightly deforming the leg tubes which formed a tighter grasp on the end-caps.

My other concern was with the construction of the stand. Whilst the font legs are firmly attached to the glass shelves, the back panel merely allows the shelves to rest on four mounts. Ideally I would have liked to have seen a more solid frame onto which the glass wrests, instead the glass becomes integral to the construction. Glass is obviously fragile, so should anything happen to one of the shelves everything would come tumbling down, and I mean everything. The back panel is chipboard.

Overall despite its failings I'm satisfied with the dimensions of the stand which house my 21" 4:3 CRT TV, DVD player, VCR and PVR with ease. The height between each of the equally spaced shelves is 19cm, the depth is a little constricting however and is limited to 36cm. One frustrating point is the holes made in the rear of the stand to allow the cables through are too small for UK 3-pin plugs and some SCART connectors. This makes the idea of tidying the cables a moot point, and because of the shallow depth threading the cables through the holes and into your devices is too constrictive most of the time anyway.

In short if you're looking for a reasonably well designed and made TV stand the 'Aspex Contour 3' is for you, especially if like me, you're on a budget. It's big enough to house all your technology, looks impressive and doesn't break the bank. If you're looking for a high quality, well constructed and better designed stand think about increasing your budget significantly, especially if money isn't so much of an issue.

It's a really good deal!4
For that price I think it's a very good deal. The supporting frame looks metallic but is hardened plastic/polymer material. The stand was promptly delivered, well packaged and fairly simple to assemble. It took me about 20 minutes, some of the screws were a bit fiddly though (one screw on the rear support panel could not be tightened fully and got frayed as I attempted any further. You obviously need to be careful when you are mounting the glass shelves on the support frame, a second pair of hands may be useful but not essential. After you have fully assembled the stand, lay it on it's back and tighten the two front two base legs further to make the whole frame more secure.
