The story of middle sister Hannah
This is the story of Hannah Drake who can manipulate the wind through magic but is very insecure in social settings with anyone other than her sisters and the local sherrif Jonas. He has loved her for years but doesn't want to involve Hannah in his dangerous life even though at the start of this book he relies on Hannah to use her magic to save his life following a gunshot wound.
What I liked about this book is that if you haven't read any of the Drake Sister's books (which I hadn't) it is easy to pick up the relationships in the book. But, if you are a regular reader of the series, Feehan doesn't do a lot of the annoying recaps of other stories and histories that many series authors do. You really get the feel that Jonas and Hannah have had a long history already. I am still mostly a fan of her "Dark" series but I will continue with these as they are something different and lighter. I can't wait for her sister Abigal's story with the Russian hitman Ilya who has featured in this book.
"Drake Sisters" series book 5
The Drake family and their close friend Jonas Harrington are left devastated when someone launches a vicious physical attack on the beautiful Hannah Drake. Jonas is beside himself, furious that he wasn't around to protect Hannah who now feels unworthy, believing her looks to be destroyed and the little self confidence she had left shattered. The reluctant supermodel cannot face herself in the mirror and believes Jonas will no longer find her attractive despite his newly verbalised love for her. Yet this attack against Hannah is not an isolated event, instead someone appears to be orchestrating further acts of violence and her life remains under constant threat.
This is my most favourite book so far in the "Drake Sisters" series. Hannah may be tagged as the most beautiful of the sisters; however she is far from the most confident and is certainly the most vulnerable. Jonas, with his bossy, domineering attitude is the perfect match for her, insisting she place her own happiness and needs above those of everyone else and re-establish her own priorities rather than be a perfect people pleaser. The Drake sisters again unite their magic to defend themselves, and the reader witnesses for the first time how savage their house can react to the threat of danger and intruders. The action roles as thick and heavy as the fog the sisters call for protection whilst the more poignant moments (specifically the letters each of the sisters write to Hannah) are deeply moving and almost heartbreaking in places.
I now very much look forward to reading book 6 "Turbulent Sea". I love Joley, and her determination to remain single when faced with mobster bodyguard and fellow magic user Ilya Prakenskii is sure to be a fabulous read.
