Synopsis
If ever there was a deserving recipient of the title 'Great Car', it is the Jaguar E-Type. Produced from 1961 to 1975, this is a sports car that even today is instantly recognisable by people of all ages and is one of the best known icons of the sixties. Published to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the E-Type that will be celebrated worldwide in 2001, this is the first title in an exciting new all-colour series from Haynes that will include books on the 'Big' Healey, AC Cobra and Porsche 911.

A superb book about a beautiful car
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is beautifully designed and the layout obviously owes much to the Dorling Kindersley approach to publishing. I somewhat disagree with the above reviewer, because whilst it is true that there is nothing particularly new in terms of information presented in this book, it is an extremely approachable book. Porter's history of the E-Type may well be definitive, but it is probably too detailed for the casual reader and is also much more expensive than this superb book. Furthermore, I really love the photographs in this Haynes book. Buy it, you won't regret having such a lovely book as this on your shelves. Besides, it is great for the person who is perhaps only casually interested, whilst also being wonderful to look at for the not so casual reader of books about the E-Type.
Good solid stuff, but nothing new...
The new book from Haynes makes an for interesting read, although nothing new has been presented on the history of the "E" that hasn't been mentioned in other publications. However, I was disappointed by the photographic reproduction, some of the images are quite dark. Given the choice I would choose "Original Jaguar E-Type" by Philip Porter it's a detailed history of the "E" with better photography.
