Product Description

David Perry, Foreword by Robt. Williams. For as long as young men have been channeling, chopping, and hopping up rods and customs, women - whether loyal girlfriends or trouble-seeking bad girls - have been an integral to their scene. In this unique portfolio evoking great 1950s pin-up artists like Vargas and Elvgren, talented photographer David Perry depicts models in and out of cherry-picked rods and customs wearing painstakingly chosen period dress and hairstyles. More than 100 photos present these modern-day pin-ups under three themes: Garage, Cruising, and Race. In addition, essays explore each topic and are also accompanied by pulp novel covers, period mags, and ads that place the photography in a historical context. Captions identify the car owners, photo location, and, where appropriate, interesting car specs and histories.

Editorial Reviews

Review
If he loves girls and cars, he'll love you forever for buying him this book by photographer David Perry. perry scoured the States for amazing hot rods and customs, some by custom king George Barris himself. Adorned with gorgeous gals, they're shot in custom shops, gas stations, and the famous Bonneville Salt Flats. The pictures mix classic sexy pulp fiction covers , ZZ Top videos and modern psychobilly chci - Betty grable never had the attitude of these babes. Minimul text explains who, where and what's under the hood --New York Post; One look throguh David Perry's latest book, and it's clear that everything in this collection of hard steel and soft skin is a carefully crafted dichotomy. For every hardened cam, there is a soft and supple gam! There's no room for chance here. There is a light where he wants it and shadow where the sun dosen't shine. This book is the candy shop; it's all there for the asking, but how can you choose? You can't. You want it all and it's all in here. But remeber, unlike the rods he serves up, this treat is better savoured than slammed. --Gearhead&;..brilliant...an excellent and colorful piece of work, and you'll love it. --Daily Star

kustom kulture is fully revved...With a thoughtful foreword by Robert Williams, hot rod junkies will enjoy this --Juxtapose magazine

classic...Perry dares to search for beauty in pierced tattooed girls and roadhouse parking lots --Foreward magazine
