Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Accepting that by the time people get to season seven they tend to know the formula of 24 inside out, the creative minds behind the show respond here by emptying out every cupboard to throw everything they can at you. The core of the show remains the adventures of Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, as he battles to save the world from yet another terrorist threat. With the action taking place in real time, we get 24 episodes set across a single day, and it’s one filled with twists, turns, action and surprise. That much we’re expecting.

Surprise number one in 24 - Season 7 though arrives within 20 minutes of the season starting, as the character of Tony Almeida seemingly returns from the dead. So what’s happened? Has Tony turned? What kind of threat is brewing? Ah, it’s these and many questions that are resolved at the show’s usual breakneck pace.

24 - Season 7 also wisely gets on board a roster of enviable acting talent. Cherry Jones ably takes on the role of President Allison Taylor, while Jon Voight makes a suitably sneery Secretary Of Defense. Add in the likes of Kurtwood Smith, Bob Gunton, Janeane Garofalo and Tony Todd, and it’s an impressive roster who put a straight face on the occasionally silly narrative.

Season 7 does find 24 inevitably lacking some of that original spark, and a few more ideas wouldn’t hurt it. But it’s still a confident season of arguably the best thriller currently on television. And, bluntly, there’s nobody who does all this quite like Jack Bauer, even if the man’s best days may be behind him… --Jon Foster

Synopsis
Following up on the harrowing events of the feature-length movie REDEMPTION, 24's full-throttle seventh series once again hurtles viewers back into the breathless pace of the programme proper, with all the fast-paced verve fans have come to expect from FOX’s blockbuster action franchise. Federal Agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) returns from working alongside old friend Carl Benton at an underprivileged boys' school in war-ravaged Sangala, Africa, where he was forced to spring back into action after a heinous warlord kidnapped schoolchildren to be recruited as soldiers for a planned coup. Back in the States, Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones) has been inaugurated as the country’s first female president, which puts her family in danger. Soon after returning, Jack discovers that the terrorists who have breached the government’s computer database infrastructure may be the same ones behind the Sangala incident. In addition, the CTU is out of commission and Elisha Cuthbert returns as Jack's daughter, Kim. Included here are all 24 episodes.

Stunning and energetic return to form for the ground-breaking TV series. Season 7 is so good its up there with season 1 and season 4. The change of setting to Washington DC and the abolishment of CTU gives this season a freshness its not had for a while now. There's great villains as well, especially Jon Voight's mercurial and sinister Jonas Hodges. In terms of the transfer you couldn't really ask for more: superb picture and mind-blowing sound; during of the season's expertly coreographed gunfights you'll think its happening in the room! An absolutely essential purchase, excellently packaged as well and with one of the best menus around. Buy this today, right now, instantly!!!!

Impressive Blu-ray for 24 Season 75
I can't comment on the quality of the story (or how it fares compared to the rather disappointing Season 6) as I'm only 3 episodes in - the box set arrived rather late (postal strike!). Just to quickly say that the picture quality is very good (about 4/5 I would say). The HD detail is particularly noticeably in the wider shots, which are very crisp compared to the previous seasons on DVD. There's not too much difference in close-ups all the time, it seems to be a style choice or focus issue, but not all the close-ups are super sharp (others are). The colour saturation is also very nice, with flesh tones and eye details standing out very well from some indoor colder blues and warmer outdoor shots. There is digital noise in the darker scenes though, but I wouldn't score the Blu-ray down for that as I think it's a source/style issue (rather like Battlestar Galactica in HD). The sound is very, very strong for a TV programme (5/5), so much so that I've had to dip the speakers a bit for later night viewing. The performances are good, some old characters are back, but my one gripe at this stage is that the dialogue so far is a bit too literal and formal sounding. I'm hoping it'll settle down as the Season progresses after the scene has been set. The story has already taken a few twists and turns to keep me hooked though. Overall it's great to see Jack in a high-quality, decent HD package. I'm looking forward to the rest.

Best Tv Show Ever5
I bought the Dvd while in the Us and could not put it down - this is my favourite season along with Day 5
