Manufacturer's Description
Got a laptop? What will you do if the hard-drive fails? Backup all those important files on a ByteStor "Dataferry" USB flash drive. Presentations, spreadsheets etc can be run straight from the drive. No need to copy them to your hard-drive. It's the perfect gift for anyone that owns a computer. Insert the flash drive into a computer's USB Socket. Drag and drop files - data, image, sound or any type of file - onto the flash drive and then remove the flash drive. The drive shows up with the next available drive letter. Insert the flash drive into another computer and all the files can be accessed instantly. It couldn't be easier. No drivers are needed. (Drive does not support Windows 98 SE.)

The lid broke - but Amazon are replacing it
I've had one of these for 9 months, and the lid is now so loose that it hardly stays on. I checked on Bytestor's website and they offer a 2 year guarantee, through the original seller, so I contacted Amazon on Tuesday and asked if the cap could be replaced, and today they've posted me a replacement, no charge. Fantastic, well done Amazon (-1 star for the lid not being that secure in the 1st place). Otherwise I have been very happy with the flash drive, and bought other ones for family at Christmas.
This Is A Survivor
Just to report that one of these devices has survived an accidental 45min, 40C wash cycle. It came out looking as good as new, and after I left it to dry for a few hours I plugged it back in. Perfect; all files intact. I'd certainly recommend this device but my main recommendation has to be to check your pockets before putting your clothes in the wash.
Big Five Stars so far.
Read the review before me that talks about the drive failing. My condolences because that sounds like an awful thing to happen.
As for me and my experience with the Flash drive, I have to say it's been plain sailing. I originally bought the 2 GB version to transport my Word; Excel and Powerpoint files around and it was great. Only problem was my wife started using to carry her Powerpoint files around! So I gave her that one and bought this 4 Gb.
This is working great since I purchased in april (Yep, I'm a slow reviewer too!). I think that they are absolutely marvelous. I always used to carry around a messenger bag stuffed with policy documents and guides to meetings so I could stay on top of my work, but now I carry this! Straight into a laptop or desktop and I have books' worth of info at my fingertips. I use all the time and have had no problems whatsoever.
However, it is never my only source of backup. I use it for transporting files - NOT as my primary backup. I backup every 2-4 weeks onto an external 250gb hard drive (they cost roughly £50 - see Western Digital My Book on Amazon Search then check Similar Items). If my desktop ever fails, it's all there.
Any ICT person will tell you the same. Except they'll tell you to backup a lot more regularly than I do.
My Opinion: Flash drives for transport and External Hard drives for back-up/ Storage.
