Ever wondered what it would be like to hit one of life's 'milestones' and swap the daily grind for a nice long walk?
Looking for a 'life challenge' to coincide with his 30th birthday, Mark comes up with the ridiculous notion of quitting his burgeoning (sort of) career and heading out to discover one country for each of his thirty years on Earth. What follows is a madcap, backpacking adventure spanning 30 countries, four continents and over a hundred cities and towns in nine breakneck months.
30: A Sense of Adventure and No Sense of Direction is a collection of laugh-out-loud anecdotes and short stories from an unforgettable journey.

Review
One of the best, and most inspiring, books I've read all year!

Wonderful insight!
Not having quite experienced the 'back-packer' 'thing', this book provides a very entertaining perspective on the ethos of travelling lite to places not ordinarily associated with tourism. Not only is a real sense of the places visited drawn from the writings here, but also there is a easily built empathy with the experiences of the writer as they were encountered and lived through.
It's an entertaining yarn, full of anecdote and comedy, even when the events described weren't what most would describe as opportunities for laughter, it ends up being the result.
If you are stuck in a working life that stimulates less than a hour spent in a dentist's waiting room, and you often find yourself wondering what more there could be to life, then read this book. It's one mans answer to those problems and could well be the trigger for you do something, rather than sit there wondering and wasting your life!!!
never judge a book by its cover
I was drawn to this book by its cover (bad mistake). It looked as though it was going to be an interesting (it wasnt) and quirky (it wasnt) look at travel (no) and I expected a lot of funny anecdotes (disappointed there). I could have written this book (so could you) its basically just a diary of a mostly (completely) uneventful trip - I walked up the path, paid my entrance fee, came out, went home. Got on a bus, lost my ticket, found it. Met someone, didnt like them, left (you get the idea)......
Probably the worst "travel" book I have ever read (and I've read lots) - oh and did I mention those incredibly annoying brackets brackets brackets (more brackets) ............... not recommended (unless you like brackets)
