Customer Reviews
The best cricket simulation ever produced.
As a fanatic supporter of cricket, I've invested over the years in countless cricket games for various platforms. This is without doubt the finest (superior even to all later releases in the ICC series [as of Dec. 2007]) and I personally would go so far as to say it's the best game I've ever played of any genre on any platform.
If you want high pace and flashy graphics, then look elsewhere... but if you're looking for gameplay, realism, addictiveness, longevity, fun and (above all) the most intuitive user interface you'll ever see, then this really is the game for you.
So, in it's basic form this game is excellent. 5stars *****. But what really sets ICC2 aside from the pack as an all-time great are:
i) The free-to-download database editor "I2Ed". Unbelievably easy to use. Adds a whole new dimension to the game. The possibilities really are endless. I've fully updated databases to present day, created dream teams, international leagues, old-timers vs up-and-comers... etc etc
ii) A glitch in the program that very very rarely will create a Sri Lankan super batsman! Eventually you'll want to sign one. Download GameHack 2.0 to edit your bank balance so you can afford him!
iii) The cricketgames.com website downloads. Numerous scenarios and savegames from other users. Endless fun!
How good is this game? I've owned it for around 8yrs. My CD recently became scratched so I'm on Amazon to buy a new copy. It is the best game there ever was.
The Frustrating Art of Captaincy
I've been playing this game for some time now. At the start it's a quite impressive representation of cricket and easy to control though make sure you download the update patch from Empire.
The problem and main frustration is that the majority of games - especially 4 or 5 day games result in extremes. Chasing 350 on a turning, uneven pitch no trouble (especially for the computer). How many times do the last few wickets add 150 or the tail end manage to recover a disaterous start. Far to often. It's like playing a football management game where in over half the games your 3-0 up or 3-0 down with 15 minutes to go and end up winning or losing 4-3. Mind you I did win the championship with perserverance though the frustration has led to uninstallation many times. It is rare that you can score faster the opposition which makes one day games tricky - I relied on bowling them out or relying on collaspsing when the game was almost won. If you put up with this stuff then it's a worthwhile purchase.
