Amazon.co.uk Review
Time to dig out your sheepskin car-coat and practise your half-time tantrums: Championship Manager with a new season and it's bigger, and better, than ever.

This time round you can have up to 26 leagues running at one time (depending on the specs of your PC/Mac) and the wealth of tactics and options on offer are enough to test any budding Arsene Wengers or Alex Fergusons.

True, the gameplay hasn't changed much, but it's the wealth and depth of stats on offer that brings back Champ Manager fans season after season. The other secret to its continuing appeal is it offers the chance to steer your beloved Third Division no-hopers to League and Cup glory, something that most Premiership-fixated arcade football games overlook.

There are some new demands on your managerial competence: as well as the usual training, transfer market and staffing issues you now have to deal with the media, and the psychological well-being of your players is now as important as their physical health. As before the actual match is played out in text format, which sounds dull, but quickly becomes alarmingly compulsive.

Championship Manager is probably not for the casual gamer as it is impossible to just dip into, but for those footy fans who KNOW they can run a football team better than 99 percent of professional managers, it is a must. Just don't expect much of a social life over the next few months. --Michael Bartley

Mark's review of Championship Mananger 2001 for PC5
Quite simply, this is a fantastic game. For those who love manager games it's the very best of the bunch, and for those who don't, or who haven't really tried them before (like me) its a sparkling introduction. The gameplay is bang up to date and superb, the financial side is excellent, and with youth training and transfer markets galore you'll never be short of new talent, if you know what you're doing. You also have the option to watch and manage your team in-game,in 'real' time, so you can even see them at work. The graphics in the in-game element are not fantastic, but pretty good for a manager based game! You can even install an editor which lets you add and (surprise surprise) edit players, teams, strips and managers, and make yourself the best player in the world (lets face it, thats what we all want to do). You can guide your team through league, cup and international competitions, and keep an eye on your country's performance as you go. Truly this game has everything, but beware, its VERY addictive, and you won't be able to win it in a day.

Be prepared to give up your life!5
This is quite simply the greatest game of all time. As an owner of Championship Manager 99/00 I have some previous knowledge of the standard of the Championship Manager series, but this quite simply blew my socks off. Everything you could possibly want in the way of improvements from the 99/00 season are here on this version.

The media interaction with the manager is a definite bonus and the FA requests are realistic (They always back the referee!)

Achieving success if definitely harder than in 99/00, which I found relatively easy after a while. So far I've failed to reach a European final with any club including Man Utd, Arsenal, Barcelona, Real, Milan, Juventus. In the league I've been coasting with Man Utd at the top of the league through 'till March and then found my players just aren't performing any more, and I'm conceeding five goals at West Ham or Derby County, and the title has gone down south to Arsenal. This game truely does test your management skills.

The editor is a welcome plus to the game, however, it really isn't the easiest feature to use and editing a team can take a VERY long time. I've found i just can't be bothered with it and just want to get on and play the game. The producers should have looked at the 99/00 editor available on the internet which was far more user friendly.

That said, this is simply a must buy game, and a steal at around ...

BUT BE WARNED YOU RISK LOSING YOUR LIFE TO THIS GAME

ANOTHER HIT FROM THE CM SERIES!5
I garuntee if you buy this game you will never, EVER, come close to real sucess, never mind in 26 LEAGUES!! I've baught CM3 - played it to death, CM99/00 - played it to death (and am still playing it!) and now CM00/01 doesn't let me down. There's 16 leagues in CM99/00 and i've only played about 6 or 7 of them and am still striving for REAL success. I MEAN HOW MANY GAMES CAN YOU MANAGE IN THE JAPANESE SECOND DIVISION????? The closest, in truth, i've ever come was winning the F.A. Cup with Man Utd. and coming 3rd in the league in CM3 (and strangely enough the same thing happened in CM99/00). CM00/01 is even better! Which includes my native Irish League, so I can bring my local Galway United to become Champions of Europe!!!! There's a few other new bits and pieces (you can complain to the FA, it's fully up to date etc.) but, besides the new leagues, the biggest add-on is the Data Editor. You can keep player transfers up to date, and, WHEN Géard Houllier is sacked you can re-appoint a new Liverpool manager. You can even increase stadium capacity!! All in all, it's a great game, even for the seasoned CM fan. If you have 99/00 and are worried that there are few differences - GETTA LIFE! It's only about £25!!! For the best management sim in the world... And as for those who are soon-to-be new to the CM series, DON'T HESITATE BUY IT NOW!! For the cheap price it is definatly THE BEST MANAGEMENT GAME IN THE WORLD!! (By a mile) Don't wait, buy it NOW!!
