Product Description

The Mukka Express, by Bialetti, is the first stove top cappuccino maker of it`s kind. The Lucida is a stylish all silver design that will look good in any kitchen. The new Mukka Express is the first, fully patented 'Stove-Top Cappuccino' maker. It combines the traditional stove-top style of coffee maker with a large size pot for holding the milk. Place the water in the bottom section, coffee in the middle and fill the top section to the maker with milk. Then place on the stove-top and as the water boils to make the coffee, the resulting steam is passed through the milk to froth it. Ideal for 2 mugs of cappuccino or café latte.

Manufacturer's Description
Bialetti's Mukka Express, the market's first stove-top cappuccino maker, has taken on a whole new look for 2006! Following last year's successful launch of the original and fun, black and white cow print design, Bialetti has opted for sophistication with the introduction of polished aluminium and polished and black aluminium versions.

Italian-based manufacturer Bialetti has been producing stove-top espresso pots since the 1930s and is the name behind the traditional stove-top style of pot, the Moka Express. The Mukka Express is the company's latest innovation and combines this traditional style of coffee maker with a larger size pot for holding the milk.

The Mukka Express works by allowing the steam pressure from creating the coffee to pass through the milk, resulting in froth.

So simple to use for a great cappuccino:

  • Place water in the bottom section to the level indicated
  • Fill the filter basket with ground coffee and twist on the upper section
  • Add milk to the level indicated
  • Close the lid, push down the pressure button which will create the steam
  • Place on the stove, bring to the boil & leave for about a minute after the button has popped up.

For a caffè latte, leave the button in the up position so as not to produce froth.

    Looking for the perfect cappuccino&
The Italians are world experts on coffee and Bialetti undertook extensive research for the Mukka Express. Coffee bars the length and breadth of Italy were visited by its new product development team and samples of cappuccino were analysed to test the optimum strength, flavour, temperature, foam depth and consistency all to ensure that the Mukka Express would produce that perfect cup of Italian cappuccino! The fabulous Mukka Express is a patented design and available exclusively in the UK from hot drinks experts La Cafetière.

    Fantastic!5
I got one of these for Christmas. It's great!! I use it on a gas cooker. I think getting the heat right is one of the secrets of getting the process of cappucino making to work. By the second attempt it was just great - perfect cappucino! I read somewhere else that the best results were from using semi skimmed milk but I've found that full fat milk is better. The instructions are clear enough I think. The only caveat is to make sure that the valve on the top is fully up if you're not making cappucino... it's quite stiff so give it a good pull to open it fully. Anyway I'd recommend this as a great alternative to bulky cappucino machines.

My best christmas present by far5
Simple to use, simple to clean and perfect cappaccino every time what a great product I love it! You can leave it out and it takes up no space not like the bulky electric ones. Brilliant!!
Only makes two cups no more no less.

    Determination pays!4
Like another reviewer on this site, I read dozens of reviews on this item on the American Amazon.com site and was cautioned, prepared, & made wary by finding not all the reviews were favourable.

I'm no novice to stove-top espresso machines, nevertheless it took me 20 (twenty!) attempts to get it right, so be warned!

That may be because I used cheap coarse-ground coffee for the first 3 'to be discarded' pots; perhaps the coarse stuff blocked something inadvertently? Whatever the problem, it was taking 12 minutes to 'froth production' instead of the 4 minutes quoted in the instruction booklet.

Just before giving up & returning it to Amazon as a dud, I cleaned it very carefully (YET AGAIN), tried it (YET AGAIN), and four minutes later ..... heaven: it worked perfectly, giving one large mug of delicious cappuccino.

While enjoying it I thanked providence that my other half doesn't drink coffee, though if she did, we'd need a machine each!

I used the expensive but excellent Illy Espresso Caffe Macinato (ground roasted coffee) but for my regular twice daily fixes will investigate other brands also.

ADDENDA: I've tried several different manufacturer's ground coffee, some taste better than others (subjectively) BUT VERY FINELY GROUND COFFEE SEEMS SOMEHOW TO BLOCK THE MACHINE & STOP IT WORKING. So I don't use the FINEST grind. This is where my first 20 attempts foundered - I was using very finely ground Illy; less finely ground (everyone's) works every time.
